Join our dynamic, diverse team at Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Toronto as Accounting Manager. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Finance and is responsible for managing the Accounting operation and is assistant manager level.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director of Finance in maintaining the general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations. Additionally, the Staff Accountant is responsible for supervising other areas within the Finance Department under the direction of the Assistant Director of Finance, including but not limited to all Four Seasons shared service functions, payroll, accounts payable, income audit and assisting with accounts receivable and general cashiering in accordance with all related local and corporate policies and procedures. The Accounting Manager is also responsible for the development of Finance staff to aid the future growth of the company.

Key functions:

  • Print, prepare and mail statements for outstanding C/L accounts at least twice per week.
  • Answer guest and credit card inquiries concerning accounts including the documentation and preparation of adjustments if necessary on a timely basis.
  • Review group and catering contracts, establish understanding of billing arrangements and follow up on deposits and prepayments.
  • Ensure all payments are made correctly and with the correct authorization (approved PO), evidence of receipt, invoice or delivery slip and Accounts Payable stamp
  • Collect payments to City Ledger Accounts daily.
  • Communicate promptly with the Assistant Director of Finance on any discrepancies in billing payments and other potential problems.
  • Verify prices, quantities and extensions against purchase order as required, and initial the invoice when verified.
  • Bring any discrepancies to the attention of the Assistant Director of Finance.
  • Verify that all invoices are supported by duly approved purchase orders when required, signed receiving documentation and/or the approval of authorized management personnel.
  • Run the required reports at month end to close the Accounts Payable cycle.
  • Maintain, and constantly update, an approved vendor listing file
  • Participate in month end activities.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or Assistant Director of Finance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • College degree preferably specializing in accounting and/or hotel/restaurant management or equivalent experience is required.
  • Working technical knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and job knowledge of all positions in Accounting, Purchasing and Food and Beverage control. Working knowledge is generally learned on-the-job or through a series of professional certifications.
  • Proven leadership skills in a hotel/resort environment
  • Highest level of integrity and transparency
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with cross-functional teams, to negotiate for resources and influence stakeholders and to gain acceptance of and commitment to plans, ideas, initiatives, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare and deliver reports, effective presentations and to facilitate meetings
  • Knowledge of and the ability to operate computer equipment and Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • A working knowledge of hotel systems and operations.
  • Strategic, analytical and have solid business acumen
