ELO is looking to become a one-stop shop for top-level gamers in the mobile gaming and computer peripherals niche by providing peripherals and accessories that allow them to match the precision and competitiveness that they’d get on a console or computer.

Job Mission

The mission of this role is to successfully develop and launch a fast, bug-free, great user experience android application for the app store that interfaces with the ELO Vagabond mobile gaming controller within 4 months. We are looking for a junior Software Developer who specializes in Android development to join our team to disrupt the future of mobile gaming. ELO is a startup based in Toronto, who are developing the next generation of mobile gaming controllers for elite gamers to take their gaming experience to the next level. As part of your role at ELO, you will be helping us to design and code the Android application that will serve as a games library/launch pad for games, as well as a mobile social platform for gamers to hang out and chill out after intense and grueling matches of PubG. Expect yourself to dabble in other areas as well, such as tinkering with AWS Cognito for authentication or designing UI flows in Figma.

This will be accomplished by:

1) Taking the FIGMA UI/UX file provided and translating that into an android application.

2) Properly hosting the application and building it for scalability.

3) Adding all features from the product backlog and integrating them into the application on time.

4) Debugging and creating an application with a great customer experience with an NPS score of over 9.2.

we are looking for in a candidate is a proven track record in writing software, knows how to think about software, and displays a natural curiosity that drives them to analyze problems at one level deeper than the average person. While not all of the requirements in the List are must-haves, we are looking for someone who is capable and competent. This is a fast growth startup, average achievers and generally mid people need not apply.

Key Criteria/Requirements

  • Contribute as designer and developer to design, code and release software for Android target
  • Familiar with the latest Android Jetpack Compose UI framework and pseudo functional React-like design Composability design patterns
  • GOOD head for writing sustainable software with an eye for maintainability, and an general aversion for the “quick and dirty” fix
  • Participate in feature requirements analysis, and test-case design review
  • Good unit-testing hygiene
  • Familiarity with one of the cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Understanding of core REST API concepts, including asynchronous requests, HTTP protocol basics, and client optimizations
  • Good understanding of deploying software at scale, and knowing various performance optimizations and their tradeoffs and when to deploy them
  • Collaborate with other engineers by using Scrum/Agile development process.
  • Be able to work fast and adapt to quick iteration cycles in response to product feedback
