We provide unparalleled care for patients with complex, chronic rheumatologic disease and advance care by studying pathogenesis, biomarkers, therapeutics and clinical outcomes. We are excited to be training the next generation of rheumatology clinicians, teachers and scientists. The Division of Rheumatology is embedded within the academically focused Department of Medicine and supported by the benefits of the highly regarded University of Toronto.

The vision of the Psoriatic Disease Research Program (PsDRP) is to find the cure for patients with psoriatic disease. The Program, by leading the international research community in better understanding psoriatic disease aetiology and progression and discovering new treatments and prevention measures, will improve the lives of those affected. The ambition of PsDRP is to continue to be the driving force behind the International Psoriasis and Arthritis Research Team (IPART) and the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and PsA (GRAPPA).

Our mission is to innovatively find answers in a cultivating environment that fosters collaboration to address the issues of early diagnosis, disease expression and disease impact.

Our approach has been to carefully phenotype patients with psoriatic disease over time, and to establish a biobank linked to clinical assessments. Ours is a translational program that has the capacity to study both clinical and biological features of the disease. To date we have developed an excellent program with valid instruments to assess patients, demonstrated that patients diagnosed early do better, and established a molecular biomarker program to determine disease susceptibility and expression.

We intend to expand our program to include modern imaging methods which will help better define disease phenotypes and outcomes, thus simultaneously strengthening our molecular biomarker program. This will be achieved by strengthening our team by recruiting an internationally reputed clinician investigator with expertise in psoriatic disease, imaging, outcome measures and cohort studies who shares our vision and is committed to these goals and have already developed methodology in some of these areas.

The preferred candidate will be expected to provide excellent clinical care for patients attending the psoriatic arthritis program, to optimize the potential and productivity of the psoriatic arthritis research program, to establish an internationally recognised spondyloarthritis musculoskeletal imaging program, to guide the development of imaging research in the division of rheumatology and to strengthen strategic partnerships with imaging and biomarker researchers across Canada and the World.

It is anticipated that the preferred candidate will participate in the Psoriatic Disease Research Program to establish and strengthen strategic partnerships and productivity. Research will focus on the development and validation of innovative imaging techniques for diagnosis, assessment, and management of psoriatic arthritis. The investigator will partner with molecular biomarker researchers to identify and validate molecular and imaging biomarkers. They will be an active member of national and international research groups to foster research collaboration and will work to foster imaging-based research within the UHN/Sinai Division of Rheumatology and the larger division of rheumatology at the University of Toronto.

Time Distribution : 50 % research, 5-10 % teaching, 40 % clinical, 5 - 10 % administration.

Clinical activities will include approximately 3 half-day psoriatic arthritis clinic and 1 half-day general rheumatology clinic weekly, and wards and consult service 8 weeks per year. Required teaching activities will include formal teaching of medical students and teaching clinical clerks, residents and fellows during ward rounds and consult service. Will also participate in core teaching of medical residents and rheumatology specialty residents.

Applications will be accepted until March 3, 2023.
