Job Description:

Length of Term: 4 or 8 months (Fall term - September to December 2023, or Fall & Winter Term - September 2023 to April 2024).

Hybrid/Remote: This co-op opportunity is voluntarily in person, remote or hybrid. If you decide remote or hybrid, you will be required to work within the province. Remote work outside of the province will not be a possibility.

If so, Sun Life Financial is seeking an Associate User Experience (UX) Researcher to join our User Experience (UX) team within the Client Experience Office.

As an Associate UX Researcher (Intern/Co-Op) you will work closely with Senior UX Researchers and UX Designers throughout the product design and validation process. You will help identify opportunities for research, choose the appropriate methods and audience, conduct research activities, and present results to internal stakeholders. You will also maintain and manage our user testing platform, competitive intelligence database, and research library.

In this role you will directly contribute to the creation of remarkable and progressive digital experiences for a variety of audiences across Sun Life Canada. You will work directly with cross-functional partners (product management, marketing, engineering) to identify and prioritize knowledge gaps, and support research activities to better understand user behaviour in the digital space and the related business impacts for our Canadian division.

What will you do?

  • Creating and updating documentation related to our user testing platform

  • Assisting with running predefined usability studies (concept tests, benchmarking studies, etc.)

  • Administering task-based testing across a variety of applications and experiences

  • Assisting with data analysis and report writing

  • Identifying trends in data collected and preparing/sharing insights with various internal audiences

  • Contributing to and categorizing material in our competitive intelligence library

  • Creating self-serve research guides/templates for internal use

  • Reviewing other internal reports/data sources (client surveys, app store reviews, etc.) and updating tracking documents

  • Organizing and maintaining our research repository

  • Triaging incoming inquiries to our research team

  • Managing access and administering our user testing platform

  • Reviewing user testing scripts and publishing tests

  • Assisting with web analytics requests

What do you need to succeed?

  • Currently a candidate for a Bachelor’s Degree or diploma in one of the following:

    • Social Sciences (Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Communications, Economics, etc.)

    • Human-Computer Interaction / Human Factors

    • Statistics / Informatics

    • Systems Design Engineering

    • User Experience Design or a related field

  • Completed at least one research methods / statistics course

  • Understanding of experiment design and controlled data collection

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills

  • Some experience with qualitative research methods (interviewing, usability testing, ethnography, etc.)

  • Able to summarize and communicate research findings

  • Logical and detail-oriented head with conceptual, creative, and innovative heart

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently

  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills

  • Experience recruiting user testing participants is an asset but not required

  • Experience conducting primary research is also an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted for. The Base Pay which you will be considered for will vary depending on the Campus program you are selected for.

Eligible Sun Life employees for various Campus Graduate programs will also participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance
