The Bereavement Support Person is responsible for end-of-life psycho-social support for Hospice residents, their families, and community clients. You are the liaison between families and the care team in this regard. You work as a senior member of the Hospice professional team in conjunction with our Care Team. You are required to develop and deliver innovative Bereavement Programing using a best practice approach to grief/bereavement support. You will also utilize a continuous improvement approach to developing, evaluating, sustaining, or implementing innovative program changes and improvements that will continue to support our diverse and ever-changing resident and family needs. This position also performs various public relations and education activities, including public and group presentations throughout Red Deer and Central Alberta. 8 hours weekly plus covering sick/vacation time.

Duties may include but not limited to:

  • In conjunction with the Care Manager, provides leadership and vision for the provision of end-of-life psychosocial support and bereavement support.
  • Oversees, supervises, and guides bereavement support for Hospice residents, their families, community clients, hospice staff and volunteers, community members, groups, and businesses throughout the Central Zone.
  • Provides one-on-one support for Hospice residents, families, community clients, and volunteers.
  • One-on-one support to Hospice Staff in relation to coping with grief as it relates to their work at Hospice.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of Bereavement Support Team Volunteers.
  • Communicates bereavement support, Hospice information, and instructions using various methods including meetings, written material, etc. to all Hospice residents, clients, staff, volunteers, and to community members.
  • Completes performance planning and reviews for Bereavement Volunteers.

Salary: $32.00-$35.00 per hour
