BCIT is seeking a highly motivated and self-directed individual with exceptional interpersonal skills to join our Broadcast department as a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE ) Broadcast Engineer. The ideal candidate must be a strong team player and possess a keen eye for detail, with a well-developed ability to stay organized. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the success of various projects and must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. As a Technical professional reporting to the Associate Dean of Broadcast and Media Communications, you will collaborate closely with the Associate Dean and Broadcast & Media Communications Faculty. You will be responsible for overseeing the planning and maintenance of technical processes and equipment for all Broadcast & Media Communications programs, including Evolution 107.9FM and The Crow 1680AM radio stations.

Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair of all types of broadcast/production equipment in a radio and television facility, including control room and studio equipment, servers, workstations, automation systems, editing systems, and routers. Specific media and broadcast systems, include but are not limited to:
    • iMediaTouch play-to-air Automation system
    • Wheatstone WheatNet Audio-Over-IP system
    • RF and transmission systems
    • Building infrastructure systems
    • Media Storage Server systems
  • Implement and document temporary and permanent installations to meet the technical requirements of broadcast department infrastructure
  • Participate in equipment purchasing/rentals and system design decisions
  • Provide Business / Broadcast IT / Network systems and software support
  • Ship and receive equipment for projects and repairs
  • Provide technical support to Faculty, staff and students
  • Liaise with other campus departments such as IT Services and Facilities to find solutions to Broadcast department issues
  • Coordinate with other Broadcast programs for projects, initiatives, and support
  • Document and communicate regularly issues and fixes to all stakeholders
  • Work closely with Television & Video Production, Radio Arts & Entertainment, Broadcast & Online Journalism diploma programs, and Flexible Learning to maintain a consistent and high-quality product
  • Perform other duties as required to the above

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary Broadcast or Electronics Technologist Program or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 6 years of recent applicable broadcast engineering experience at a senior level
  • Ability to install, troubleshoot and maintain broadcast systems, facilities and equipment, including mechanical equipment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot electronics at a component level
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and skills required
  • Skilled at using various hand and power tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital audio/video signals and their integration into Broadcast Systems including Broadcast IP Technology
  • Radio transmitter experience
  • Recent experience with iMediaTouch play-to-air Automation system
  • Recent experience with Wheatstone WheatNet Audio-Over-IP system
  • Working knowledge of computer system hardware, to the device level, their capacities, and capabilities. Should have the necessary skills and ability to assemble, configure or service any workstation hardware
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio and Excel
  • Working knowledge of media and broadcast technology and processes
  • Ability to adapt to a changing technology and learn about new trends and standards
  • Ability to effectively multitask and shift primary focus in response to changing needs

Salary Range
Salary Range: $69,865 - $92,712 per annum.

Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
