Job Summary

The Café & Catering Chef, under the direction of the Food & Beverage Manager, will primarily be responsible to adhere to and enforce all appropriate workplace regulations, compliances, and legislation regarding health and safety, food preparation standards, and company policies and procedures. They will work with and oversee members of the food preparation team and be responsible for food preparation of all cafe, banquet and catering events while ensuing superior quality and consistency at all times. This position will be continually aware of, and maintain, the highest standards of professionalism by following the company dress code and/or wearing the company uniform. This role will also maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and attitude at all times. The Café & Catering Chef must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent and strong working knowledge of food services industry principles, methods, practices, and techniques.

Job Duties

  • Adhere to and enforce all appropriate workplace regulations, compliances, and legislation regarding health and safety, food preparation standards, and company policies and procedures
  • Be continually aware of, and maintain, the highest standards of professionalism by following the company dress code and/or wearing the company uniform
  • Maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and attitude at all times
  • Protect the health and safety of others by adopting safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions immediately
  • Assist in controlling budget and keep records accurate by maintaining updated and accurate recipes and costing of all dishes prepared for banquet/event functions
  • Inspect property and services to ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety, and other statutory requirements
  • Maintain familiarity with the composition of all menu items including café and catering/corporate menu
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment and tools are being used safely and according to provided direction
  • Ensure food is handled, stored, and cooked according to health and safety standards, and that proper cleanup occurs to meet health regulations
  • Clean agreed designated areas and equipment in accordance with laid-down procedures, morning or evening routines, and hygiene requirements
  • Assist in Preparing menus and daily specials, and determine related food and labour costs
  • Help to raise the standards within the cafe and bring new concepts forth

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Degree, diploma and/or professional licence in the food services industry
  • Five to ten years of experience in the food services industry
  • Strong working knowledge of food services industry principles, budget, methods, practices, and techniques
  • Ability to analyse and interpret the needs of customers and offer the appropriate options, solutions, and resolutions required
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $41,561.00-$54,500.00 per year
