Compensation Range

This is a part-time - .5FTE position. Please note the salary shown herein is the full time (1 FTE) minimum and maximum salary as per the AAPS salary scale. Hiring practices follow minimum to midpoint of the salary scale - Minimum -$6677.33, Midpoint - $$8346.83 (pro-rated as required). Job Summary
The incumbent will provide case management services to students of concern that are attending the university. Students of concern are those students who present with serious or complex health or behavioral concerns that affects their ability to be successful at university.
In general, case management services include coordination of services that will address the immediate and future needs of students with the objective of supporting students to be successful while attending university. The case manager will assist with identifying and assessing students of concern, developing and implementing an individualized treatment/management plan and provide ongoing follow up on student’s well-being as it relates to success in their academic pursuits.
The incumbent will collaborate with units in the Associate Vice President Students portfolio, and the university at large to provide expertise and consultation in support of individual student success.

Organizational Status
Reports to the Manager, Student Support & Case Management. Works cooperatively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals across the AVP Students portfolio and campus as a whole.

Work Performed
The incumbent will perform the following:
  • Assess identified students presenting with concerns related to their health and wellbeing; identify need for and create individualized management treatment plan to support student success. Identify need for follow up and additional assessment.
  • Re-evaluate and implement adjustments or modifications to management treatment plans in conjunction with the student and when appropriate, in conjunction with the university.
  • Provides individual support, counselling and monitoring for a small caseload of students to assist with personal concerns, including crisis intervention when identified.
  • In collaboration with others and as part of a team approach, develops and manages behavioral care plans for students that present with risk or threat of violence and ensures follow up of these students.
  • Provide referral services to students to and liaises with community supports when appropriate.
  • Responds to request from AVP Students portfolio, other university departments and faculties regarding identified students and works to manage student-related problems.
  • Co-manages the Early Alert system with others; assigns and ensures follow up of students identified through the Early Alert system.
  • Develops and delivers training for staff and faculty in the Early Alert system.
  • Chairs case management conferences that involve both university employees and external community providers.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional multidisciplinary team by consulting with departments within the AVP Students portfolio, other university departments and faculties regarding identified students, and works to manage or resolve student-related problems.
  • Contributes to team development (Health and Wellness team) through consultation and development of best practice guidelines.
  • Develops and delivers educational services for students, staff and faculty, to meet the needs of targeted segments of the student population as needed.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures that focus on student health and wellbeing.
  • Maintains data related statistics and prepares reports as part of ongoing review of case management services.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the mandate of Health & Wellness and Student Services portfolio as requested.
  • Provides support to respondents in SC 17 cases from time to time.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Must be able to act with a considerable degree of autonomy and independence in the provision of assistance to students, while adhering to the ethical and legal standards of the profession. Poor professional judgment or unethical practice by the Case Manager could be extremely detrimental to the clients' wellbeing and create situations of extreme legal liability for the University.

Supervision Received
Reports to the Manager, Student Support & Case Management. Acts independently within established clinical and ethical guidelines. Works within a model of collegial consultation and collaboration with other members of the AVP Students portfolio [including the Director of Student Development and Advising].

Supervision Given
May supervise practicum students as well as students involved in peer programs, work-study programs, assistant positions and/or volunteer assignments.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology or a related field. Eligible for professional certification in British Columbia. Minimum of five years of experience in clinical counselling plus experience supervising Master’s level practicum students.
