NIIGAANIIN SPECIALIST (Full Time)

SERVICING SAGAMOK ANISHNAWBEK


Wanna join a dynamic team? We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team in Sagamok Anishnawbek providing the full Ontario Works program.

Are you an out of the box thinker with a proven track record of working with Indigenous people in social assistance? Then you need to apply and join our Niigaaniin Team!


The Niigaaniin Specialist is responsible for client supports functions within the financial and employment component of Social Assistance including but not limited to emergency assistance, on-going assistance, and transitional support funding and any other type of funding provided under Niigaaniin Services.


QUALIFICATIONS


Requirements

  • It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation,
  • Will have a university degree/college diploma in social work, OR a minimum of five years work experience in social assistance,
  • Certified life skills coach,
  • Motivational interview skills,
  • Will have a valid class “G” driver’s license and a vehicle, and
  • Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial policies and legislation, regulations and/or guidelines that are relevant to the funding and delivery of Niigaaniin services,
  • will have a thorough knowledge of the range of relevant community-based and external programs and services available to community members,
  • will be knowledgeable about the culture and the significant characteristics of the social structure and relevant human services needs of the First Nation,
  • will be knowledgeable of the range of both contemporary and traditional methods of intervention, assessment, counselling, support, training and healing that are effective in promoting community, family and individual development and well-being,
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (training available),
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills,
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written),
  • Excellent stress management skills,
  • Efficient time management skills with adherence to timelines and deadline,
  • Ability to learn new skills and be flexible to adapt to changing workload, and
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
