Do you have retail experience and enjoy customer service? SFU Bookstore invites applications for part-time positions providing excellent cashier and retail service for our Burnaby flagship store and pop up stores in Surrey and/or Vancouver campuses. We encourage SFU students to apply for temporary part-time (less than 35 hours/week) positions as priority is given to qualified SFU students who are registered in credit courses in the semester of employment.

Performs standard cashiering services by operating an electronic cash register and credit/debit card terminal to process customer transactions; logging on/off cash registers and computing systems; counting and creating floats; and checking, sorting, and collecting receipts for deposit. Provides highly visible and pro-active customer service to internal and external customers by acknowledging, greeting, and welcoming customers; encouraging customer purchases; and directing the flow of customers into, within, and out of the Bookstore. Performs retail maintenance and clerical functions in the Course Book, General Book, Stationary, and Merchandise areas of the Bookstore. Performs other related duties consistent with position title and classification on request.

Qualifications:

  • **High school graduation.
  • **1 year of related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of retail inventory practices.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate an electronic cash register with a high degree of accuracy and satisfactorily complete a cashier training program.
  • Ability to deal with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks associated with cashiering, ticketing, tidying, and stocking books/products.
  • Ability to accurately check stock on hand and legibly record information.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instrucations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift, move, or carry boxes or materials up to 10 kg.
  • Ability to stand for up to three hours at a time.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work at the Burnaby, Vancouver, or Surrey campus.
  • **or an equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

Please note: This is a part-time position working 3 to 7 hours per day between 8:30am and 6:00pm Monday to Saturday. You must be available for three or more shifts per week and priority will be given to registered SFU students who submit a Fall 2022 & Spring 2023 class schedule with their cover letter and resume. Flexibility to work at other campuses (ie, Surrey and Vancouver) is preferred.

Assignment dates are December 5 to 16, 2022 and January 3 to 21, 2023
