CBYF Youth Intern
15 hours per week until March 31, 2024,
with the possibility of additional hours

Position Summary:

The Youth Intern position is part of the Tamarack Community Building Youth Futures Initiative (CBYF), funded through the
Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy (YES). This initiative will explore needs and gaps for youth in
Chilliwack and work collaboratively with the community to empower youth by increasing educational and employment
opportunities. Work will be promoted and marketed using various mediums to build support for policy change.

Under close supervision by the CBYF Program Coordinator, the CBYF Youth Intern will be assisting on planning, organizing,
implementing, evaluating, and marketing (specifically using social media) the annual CBYF Reconnect Festival. The annual
event brings employers, social service resources, businesses, youth, and their families together to get connected with the
goal of supporting increased employment and graduation rates. Additionally, the CBYF Youth Intern will be supporting the
implementation and evaluation of the 2023-2024 Afterschool Strategy initiative.

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 20 to 30 years old.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

High School Diploma.

Enrolled in a School of Business undergraduate program.

No experience required.

Job Skills and Ability:

Knowledge of web-based systems, specifically social media.

Demonstrates willingness to learn.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Punctual, and willing to work flexible hours, including evening and weekends.

Demonstrated experience in professional report writing, business research methods, advertising, digital
marketing, brand image management, public relations, and event management.

Demonstrated experience with leadership and/or advocating for youth needs.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and marketing (specifically using social media) the annual CBYF
Reconnect Festival, with the support and guidance of the CBYF Program Coordinator.

2. Working with the CBYF Program Coordinator to implement and evaluate the 2023-2024 Afterschool Strategy initiative.

3. Assist in coordinating and connecting with partners, committees, teams and volunteers in all aspects of scheduling,
programming and administration.

4. Work alongside the CBYF Social Media team to produce all general CBYF program marketing materials.

5. Represent youth voice in engaging with the Tamarack Community Initiative as well as engaging with youth in the
community to build awareness and connection to the community effort.

6. Maintains records, reports problems or concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.

7. Complete all mandatory learning requirements.

8. Performs other relevant duties as may be required.

General: 

Wage rate as per BCGEU Collective Agreement, Unique, Grid Level 7 - $23.47 per hour. 

This position requires Union membership. 

This position is open to applicants between the ages of 20 to 30 years old. 

This position requires successful completion of a criminal record check. 

This position reports to the CBYF Program Coordinator.
