Phoenix Rising is a multi-faceted organization that provides services to all women with or without children including those experiencing concerns with mental health, addictions and/or domestic violence. As an organization we operate within a feminist framework, in which equality for women is encouraged, the practice of women helping women is promoted, and individual differences are respected. Phoenix Rising provides safe and affordable geared to income housing for women with or without children at the apartment building and services at the drop-in center Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekends may be required to work and having a flexible work schedule.

Direct Service

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations at the Phoenix Rising Women’s Centre
  • Access community food banks to ensure food security on Wednesdays.
  • Support student learning contracts from Sault College and Algoma University and help students reach their placement goals.
  • Plan and organize annual events such as- Take Back the Night, camping trip (funding depending) Christmas feast etc.
  • Liaise and provide support and advocacy for women experiencing mental health issues, addictions and/or domestic violence through coordinating activities on a drop-in basis, referrals and crisis intervention supports.
  • Develop workshops and partner with other agencies that are relevant to women experiencing difficulties with mental health and addictions.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of services available in the community.
  • Facilitate the development of peer support networks, problem solving, goal setting, and assist women in empowering themselves to take care of their physical and mental wellbeing
  • Recognize and respond to women facing crisis situations
  • Maintain client records and statistics in keeping with Ministry and agency standards
  • Establish and maintain good communication and cooperative working relationships with other staff and the Board of Directors at Phoenix Rising
  • Perform office duties, emailing, and responding to messages etc.
  • Liaise with appropriate community mental health, addictions and domestic violence agencies and make appropriate referrals as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years experience in Social Services; Mental Health, Addictions and or Domestic Violence
  • Registered M.S.W. is preferred
  • Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent
  • Excellent understanding of feminist philosophy and a demonstrated ability to work within that framework.
  • Knowledge of mental health, addictions and domestic violence issues and pertinent legislation relating to women.
  • Knowledge of community agencies, provincial, national, and international partners both for profit and not-for-profit agencies and organizations who provide services to women experiencing mental health, addictions, and domestic violence.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Valid G drivers license, access to a reliable vehicle
  • Both vulnerable sector check and criminal record check required
  • CPR and First Aid Certification

Salary- $22.00-$25.00 per hour/35 hours per week.
