POSITION SUMMARY: The child and youth worker/behaviour interventionist will provide clinical skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to children with Autism and related developmental disabilities in the home, community, and school settings. The ABA Therapist will collect data on programs, assist with parent training, and assist the Behavior Analyst and Senior ABA Therapist with clinical assessments as needed.

RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Be available weekdays, weekends, and evenings as needed to meet the needs of clients, families and the agency.
  • Be flexible to work with different clients as deemed necessary by the BCBA, Manager and Senior Therapists.
  • Provide direct client care in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements.
  • Follow, implement, and collect data for all specific skill acquisition, toilet training, behavior reduction, crisis management, and mental health wellness protocols as developed by the BCBA and Senior Therapists.
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior.
  • Record and submit all data and case notes daily for each client.
  • Assist with parent and caregiver training online with client’s individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols.
  • Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding client progress as instructed by the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and Senior Therapists.
  • Provide a safe, appropriate, caring and nurturing environment when working with clients.
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and therapy environment. Ensure all cleaning duties are completed daily as per the expectations checklists.
  • Attend and complete all mandatory professional development opportunities.
  • Proven decision-making ability and demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations successfully
  • Follow all policies and procedures as specified in the employee handbook.

  • Flexible availability and willingness to work with clients as needed by BCBA, Manager and Senior Therapists.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, and community members.

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by code of ethics as indicated by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board
  • Commitment to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA laws.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and development as it relates to clinical skills, professional development, ethics, and technology, and training in order to perform job responsibilities to required standards.
  • Ability to interpret and implement clinical protocols, programming, data collection and case notes.
  • Maintain a professional appearance with regard to clothing, grooming, hair, and make-up at all times.

BASIC & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to lift and carry clients with adaptive equipment.
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing, running, jumping, pushing, pulling, playing) for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift, carry and maintain a variety of postures to complete all necessary cleaning duties as specified.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as instructed in any Behavior Intervention Plans while working with children with challenging behavior.
  • Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection.
  • Must be physically present at the assigned job location, which may include home, school, and community placements.
  • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means.
  • Must stay current with all mandatory professional development training.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently, with a minimum of supervision required.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel between different job sites within the Sault Ste. Marie.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License & insurance in good standing
  • Must have up to date vaccinations including the complete Covid -19 Vaccine.
  • Must have current police record check including the vulnerable sector check

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Must have experience with Children and Youth with exceptional needs
  • A Diploma in Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Educator, Social Service Worker or equivalent/higher education.
  • Experience within similar fields will be considered.
  • Experience implementing evidence based support and programming to children and youth clients.

HOURLY RATE: $23-$26 per hour

POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 2 positions

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 15-40 per week

Salary: $23.00-$26.00 per hour
