TRAIL (CIVIL ENGINEERING) TECHNICIAN

Plan360 (Southeast Regional Service Commission) is seeking a candidate with a Civil Engineering College Diploma or related field for a full-time Trail Technician position. You would join our multidisciplinary team in guiding trail construction in addition to the planning, development and management of a growing regional trail network. A secondary responsibility would be to develop and lead a seasonal trail maintenance crew responsible for maintaining portions of the Southeast Regional Trail Network.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Regional Trail Coordinator, the incumbent provides support with the preparation trail construction documents, maintenance planning and oversight. The successful candidate will assist team members in the preparation and delivery of administrative tasks related to planning, construction, and maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO)

· Prepare trail design documents.

· Determine material quantities and provide costing estimates.

· Support Trail Coordinator in the development of Request for Proposals.

· Conduct research, collect, compile, record and summarize technical data; assist with documentation for projects and presentations.

· Consult with government agencies, developers, contractors, and property owners concerning technical aspects of trail construction projects.

· Lead and supervise a trail maintenance crew, operate small heavy equipment.

· Attend meetings and work closely with the Regional Trails Coordinator.

· Perform all other duties related to their area of expertise.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

· College diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or combination of education and experience deemed equivalent).

Experience

· Relevant experience in a similar position or related field of construction.

· Experience operating heavy equipment or small/compact heavy equipment.

· Training and/or experience with small heavy equipment (mini excavators, track loaders etc.)

· Chainsaw safety course.

· Experience in trail building is an asset.

Knowledge & Abilities

· Valid driver’s License.

· Able to communicate in English, French would be an asset.

· Knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook).

· Knowledge of geographical information systems such as ArcGIS and proficiency in.

HOURS OF WORK

Full time – Thirty-five (35) hours a week (8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday)

SALARY

As per current SERSC scale, commensurate to education and experience with comprehensive benefits package including pension, RRSP, dental, and medical insurance.
