Your Opportunity:

Ponoka is a small town with easy access to Red Deer, Edmonton and Calgary. As a multi-site float position, you will have an opportunity to work in three facilities with the primary work location at Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. Ponoka Hospital is an acute care facility with an active emergency department. Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury is a large mental health facility with an active brain injury rehabilitation department. Lacombe Hospital has a dedicated lab department. The successful candidate will work as a member of the interdisciplinary team with responsibilities including collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, performing ECGs and reporting results. This is a float position between sites that includes Days, Evenings, Weekends and On Call with a 30-minute response time required.

Description:

As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures as required.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent, relevant experience as a Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologist performing procedures in a core laboratory and general diagnostic imaging, including hospital-affiliated training programs. Laboratory experience includes hematology, expanded chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen collection, preparation and referral. Recent cardiology experience including ECG and Holter Monitor. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate in English. Ability to work independently and promote good teamwork. Demonstrated initiative, good judgment, and attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and in emergencies demonstrating excellent critical thinking skills, the ability to prioritize workload, and adapt to stressful situations. Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians. Practices effective radiation protection, infection control, and safety techniques as applicable. Proficient computer skills. Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification. Ability to adapt to change and be receptive to new ideas. Demonstrated desire and actions to further own knowledge relating to the profession.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent mobile radiography and DR experience. Familiar with DXH 600, ACL Elite Pro, Vitros XT 3400, and Clinitek Advantus. Recent experience with Muse, Agfa PACS, Connect Care, Wellsky, and Unity Realtime.
