The Centre is committed to helping visible minority youth rekindle their dreams and achieve their full potential. We provide and implement professional innovative support services to individuals, communities, para-public and public organizations. We also develop and run health, education, socio-culture, and community economic development programs.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the Communications Officer will be responsible for advertising, marketing and all communications activities necessary to raise awareness of the various programs and activities of the BCRC. This role will require the Communications Officer to assess and develop an outreach and communications plan to increase the organization's brand awareness and community engagement. In this role, the Communications Officer will be responsible for the organization's social media accounts, digital marketing, communications activities, community outreach, public relations and brand awareness.

*This is a hybrid position, with 3 days in the office and 2 days at home.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage the organization's social media accounts to ensure that the public is well-informed about services, workshops and other events affiliated with the organization.
  • Monitor and update the organization's project management and social media platforms.
  • Design, publish and share social media content such as posts, stories, event flyers, videos and captions.
  • Ensure social media content and website information is accessible and accurate.
  • Develop and oversee the organization's communications and outreach strategy.
  • Maintain a database of organizations and media contacts.
  • Implement appropriate outreach strategies to communicate the organization's services and activities to our target audiences.
  • Create and produce publications, reports, presentations, flyers, infographics, the organization's newsletter, and other marketing materials.
  • Maintain and update content on the organization's website.
  • Communicate with each project team about their weekly priorities, including sending reminders, updates and new information to all employees.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails and other correspondence to the organization and distribute materials to employees.
  • Assist in the editing of documents and communication materials.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • College or university student currently enrolled in a related field (public relations, communications, human resources, community development, sociology, social sciences, recreation facilitation, social work, special care counselling)
  • Experience using content creation tools such as Mailchimp, Canva, Trello.
  • Experience with social media and content creation
  • Experience designing communication and retention strategies
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Interest in community development, social justice initiatives and citizenship education.
  • Ability to engage with individuals from multiple access points (social networks, faith communities, community groups and organizations)
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and ages (youth, families, seniors, LGBTQ2+ communities)
  • Ability to work independently and as a team to support project activities
  • Self-motivated, organized, and open-minded
  • Willingness to travel to the community for workshops or in-person events
  • Experience in participant recruitment (an asset)
  • Experience facilitating online or in-person workshops (an asset)
  • Proficiency in French is considered an asset.
  • French language skills are considered an asset.
