Wood's Homes is searching for five (5) casual Youth & Family Counsellor I to join our Community Casual Program.
Role Summary:
Reporting to the Management of Wood's Homes Community Casuals Program, the Youth & Family counsellor is the primary worker with children, youth and families within a structured setting. Youth & Family Counsellors primarily work rotating shifts that provide coverage twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. The Youth & Family Counsellor will demonstrate due diligence in being exceptional in the delivery of high-quality services and in meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety Management System at Wood’s Homes.

The Youth & Family Counsellor will demonstrate due diligence in being exceptional in the delivery of high-quality services and in meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety Management System at Wood’s Homes.
- This role will be providing coverage or additional staffing to our community and residential based programs (Altadore, Collingwood, Wheatland, Community Stabilization, Lighthouse, ISKA, PDD/New Horizon, Birch, Inglewood Opportunity Hub) as needed*
Casual/Relief staff members a required to pick up at least 2 shifts a month.
Responsibilities:
- Implementing and maintaining a structured setting fostering the development of personal and social functioning for each client.
- Is responsible for a variety of therapeutic responsibilities for particular children, youth, and
- their families. In combination with relevant case management, these responsibilities include attendance at case conferences, involvement in intervention strategies, consultations, school meetings, doctor’s appointments, family meetings, etc.
- Maintains the upkeep of the living space of the program and ensures the provision of a program that fits the requirements of the Licensing Department.
- Is responsible for a variety of tasks associated with program functioning including meal preparation, cleaning, and transportation of children, youth, and families.
- Ensure that all required trainings and Conditions of Employment are current and maintained.
- Provide availability to the Casual Manager as per the collective agreement.
- Arrange supervision once per month (either in person or virtually)
- Ensure that all program protocols are followed.
- Follow structure, routines, and professional etiquette requirements (i.e.- dress code) of each program worked in
- Ensure knowledge of agency policy and procedures
- Maintain line of communication with supervisor for scheduling, supervision and payroll needs.
- Maintain knowledge of Wood’s Homes database and use it for data entry to document client activities.
- Ensure that the casual manager is updated in a timely fashion of any additional shifts picked up after the schedule is posted.
- Follow the Wood’s Homes Health and Safety Management System.
- Executes other responsibilities as may be assigned.
- Must have either completed or near completion (less than 4 months) a diploma or degree in human services (current students will be hired as trainees)
- Current proof of professional registration may be required for certain diplomas or degrees.
- Standard First Aid and CPR (or proof of enrollment)
- Experience in working with young people preferred.
- Must have a class 5 driver’s license and own transportation.
- Commitment to the Wood’s Homes standards of employment.
- Commitment to work a minimum of 24 hours per month.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and awake overnights.
- Commitment to perform their duties in a professionally mature manner.
