About Easter Seals Ontario

Easter Seals Ontario is a registered charitable organization that helps children and youth with physical disabilities from all ethnic and religious backgrounds. Since 1922, with the help of our generous donors, Easter Seals Ontario has been offering programs and services that enable kids to experience greater independence and focus on what they can do rather than on their limitations. We assist families with the purchase of essential mobility and accessibility equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, porch lifts and ramps, as well as toileting aids and bathing equipment. We are also an industry leader in providing fully accessible summer camp programs at our two camps, Camp Woodeden in London and Camp Merrywood in Perth. In addition, Easter Seals Ontario offers access to special education and other information resources for parents and public education and awareness on disability issues.

Position Overview:

As an active member of the Northern development team, the Community Engagement Officer will play a leadership role in their community to engage civic leaders, leading business owners, passionate volunteers, service clubs, and the local media and politicians to rally support for Easter Seals’ initiatives. Understanding how to align the aspirations of a community with the funding and service needs Easter Seals Ontario fulfils will help you succeed in this role and feel like you have made a difference in your community. Since we rely on donations, private grants, and volunteers for funding, your skills in relationship building, event planning, and media savvy will help you achieve funding and community goals.

Key Priorities for the Role:

  • Relationship building with multiple audiences including donors, volunteers, community partners, media, and families
  • A genuine and authentic connection with people and our purpose, with the natural ability to make others feel your personal care and attention for them
  • An understanding of how to facilitate and guide people in support of Easter Seals Ontario and the ability to secure commitments for funding, volunteerism, and support
  • A strong commitment to support Easter Seals children and families, and the creativity and resilience to adapt to changing market conditions
  • Experience in community development, fundraising and event planning/execution
  • An existing network to support Easter Seals Ontario funding and community goals, or transferable skills to meet these needs Major Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research to assess a community’s needs and understand the role Easter Seals Ontario will play to support these needs
  • Create annual fundraising plans and implementation a critical path using the processes and templates Easter Seals Ontario has created
  • Build a pipeline of volunteers, donors, corporate and media relationships, foundations to meet financial and community engagement goals
  • Secure funding, media, volunteer, and community commitments to support Easter Seals Ontario goals
  • Seek out and build relationships with Easter Seals kids, families, and influencers to support Easter Seals Ontario goals
  • Identify and develop themes communities will rally around to create and support events, awareness, and civic support for Easter Seals Ontario programs and families
  • Coordinate and provide support for all signature event logistics, while managing critical paths and deadlines
  • Support and lead event committees by ensuring objectives are met, committee is informed, and co-chairs receive exceptional support during planning and execution of event
  • Solicit new sponsors for events and work with sponsor partners to fulfill activations, stewardship, and contracted recognition
  • Manage contracts, agreements, and event budgets
  • Responsible for accounting activities, including but not limited to: cash handling, issuing invoices, banking, and financial reporting
  • Liaise with staff across the organization, Easter Seals Ontario volunteers at events, as well as external vendors and suppliers
  • Contribute to Easter Seals Ontario’s culture by understanding and supporting our Mission and Vision, and actively demonstrating our Values
  • Other related responsibilities, as assigned

Professional Designation / Certificates:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in development/fundraising/event planning an asset
  • CRFE designation or working towards would be an asset

Experience

  • Minimum of 4+ years’ experience supporting similar scope events
  • Experience and contacts with philanthropic community is considered a strong asset
  • Experience working within the not-for-profit sector
  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge is an asset Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail (specifically with spreadsheets, timelines, and data management)
  • Ability to produce accurate work to tight timelines, while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative team player, establishing and maintaining positive working relationships, both internally and externally
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and with flexibility, in order to respond to rapidly shifting priorities Working Conditions & Requirements
  • Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Flexibility is necessary, as this position requires occasional weekend and evening work
  • Travel within and outside the Northern Regions
