Job Purpose & Responsibilities:

The City of Cold Lake is seeking a qualified individual to fill the full time, 18-month term position of Community Economic Development Advisor with the Economic Development, Strategy and Communications department.

Reporting to the Economic Development, Strategy, and Communications Manager, the Community Economic Development Advisor will:

  • Identify market trends and potential opportunities for the City of Cold Lake.
  • Establish short-term and long-term economic development strategies.
  • Formulate policies and manage programs to stimulate and promote projects, business investment, tourism, and programming.
  • The Community Economic Development Advisor will be the catalyst for change by working with government agencies and private sector organizations to build a healthy and sustainable community.

Qualification/Competencies:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Economic Development, Business Management, Public Administration, Commerce, Marketing, or related field.
  • 5 years’ experience in economic development.
  • Thorough understanding of program research, development, and implementation techniques and agencies and programs related to economic development.
  • Ability to identify, interpret, and apply policy and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills for a broad range of audiences.
  • The ability to analyze and conduct research.
  • Must be able to express ideas effectively, have strong problem-solving skills, and consensus building skills.
  • An affinity for customer services and supporting others.
  • Highly proficient in computer programs, organizational tools, critical thinking, decision making, and project management.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, high level of tact, discretion, and confidentiality.
