TITLE: Community Resource Support

POSITION STATUS: Full Time – Temporary (8 weeks – Canada Summer Jobs) (Non-Union)

SCHEDULE: 35 hours per week (flexibility required as needed)

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a provincial leader in the Deaf community. Our mission is to provide care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment that enhances the quality of life of those we serve. We are a highly motivated, collaborative team on a mission to improve the quality of life for those we serve. We take a person centered approach that aims to support and make a positive difference in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

The Community Resource Support will be supporting the Milton Day Program Leader with individual workshop programming (recurring and new initiatives).

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Support with research and outreach to connect to new possible community activities that will help increase the community inclusion and opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and explore new possibilities for programming and partnership
  • Varying the theme/activity/food/visual and educational components each month
  • Planning a minimum of 3 varied fitness activities per week (curling, beach ball, etc.)
  • Daily craft activity
  • Offering secondary activity option for those not interested in the main activity
  • Coordinating and co-leading any activities offered by special guest presenters
  • Set up and cleans up the daily morning coffee and tea for seniors
  • Assist with coordination of month birthday party for seniors
  • Appropriate activities related client's sensory loses, specifically for deaf and deaf-blind residents
  • Opportunities for social interaction in order to reduce feeling of isolation
  • Opportunities for clients to participate within the deaf community as well as general community
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with Deaf Seniors would be an asset
  • Knowledge and experience working with the Deaf community would be an asset;
  • Knowledge and experience working within the Deaf community and fluency in ASL OR strong commitment to engage in professional development to build skill and knowledge in ASL, Deaf culture and supporting Deaf or hard of hearing individuals and their community
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • French language/LSQ an asset
Canada Summer Jobs Requirements

  • Must be within 15 to 30 years of age (as per Canada Summer Jobs requirements)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Must be able to commit to full 8 weeks at 35 hours per week
