The Opportunity:


General Bank of Canada is seeking a permanent, full-time Compliance Program Administrator to become a key contributor to the Compliance team. This role is perfect for an individual that is process-oriented and prefers structure in a regulatory environment. The ideal candidate is a go-getter who is proactive in collecting and analyzing data to apply solutions to multiple deliverables. You are organized and apply good judgment when prioritizing and supporting the team.


Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), the Compliance Program Admin is responsible for providing support to the Compliance team and working to embed General Bank’s Compliance program enterprise-wide. The Compliance Program Admin is mainly responsible for the coordination of compliance reviews, preparing regulatory submissions, coordinating, monitoring, testing, and reporting activities, documentation of compliance processes, triaging the Compliance Calendar, and managing the Compliance general email inbox.


This position is located in our Edmonton office.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the design, implementation, and management of the Compliance team’s monitoring, testing and reporting regimes.
  • Support in the development and tracking of key performance indicators used by the Compliance team to monitor and report on the business units’ controls to determine the effectiveness of the compliance program at the business unit level.
  • Develop and administer the Compliance Testing Schedule and the periodic business unit testing packages including attestations.
  • Develop and manage the Policy Management Schedule and implement effective policy management processes.
  • Participate in the review and tracking of business units' action plans and reports on compliance gaps, breaches and incidents.
  • Organize, update and maintain Compliance’s library of requirements, risk matrix and risk controls catalogues.
  • Manage and update Compliance’s documentation processes including the Compliance Calendar.
  • Prepare documentation in support of required regulatory reporting and in response to regulatory inquiries, examinations and investigations as required.
  • Administer Resolver, the Compliance Team’s software system by updating requirements as necessary, preparing it for reviews and generating required reports.
  • Work closely with the CCO to ensure all compliance processes are maintained and reviewed regularly.
  • Work on projects, initiatives, preparation of reports and other duties as assigned.

What you Bring to the Table:


  • Completion of post-secondary education and relevant professional experience is required.
  • A strong understanding of risk principles, standards and practices in the financial industry is an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a methodical approach to work and the ability to multi-task and set priorities are required.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
  • Superior knowledge of Microsoft applications (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and familiarity with the internet and related applications as tools for conducting research.
  • General working knowledge of banking procedures and operations is an asset.
