Construction Estimator:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare cost estimates for industrial and commercial construction work.
  • Check tender specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work as well as the details of specifications.
  • Conduct detailed records of preliminary quantities, plans and specifications.
  • Make an in-depth study of the plans and specifications submitted by the clients.
  • Correctly interpret the technical specifications of tender documents.
  • Participate in the receipt of quotes from subcontractors and the closing of project submissions with managers.
  • Act as an intermediary with subcontractors after the launch of calls for tenders and ensure their follow-up. Analyze subcontractors' tenders and make recommendations as required.
  • Estimate the costs of materials, labor, rental, etc., according to plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate in the continuous improvement of methods and processes for processing files in progress.
  • Ensure the continuous updating of the bank of general and specialized contractors for the execution of the work.
  • Ensure timeliness in all tasks arising from the position.
  • Assist other estimators as required.

Qualifications

  • Holder of a college or university degree in civil engineering, architecture or construction management or equivalent.
  • Member in good standing of the OIQ and/or the AEECQ, an asset.
  • Three to ten years of experience in estimation, ideally with general contractors in Canada.
  • Strong mathematical skills and knowledge of industry standards, building codes, municipal by-laws and building materials.
  • Very good understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proven ability to balance multiple priorities – excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills (knowledge of BIM is an asset).
  • Bilingualism (French/English)
  • High degree of professional awareness and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate and good interpersonal skills.
  • Good management of priorities and ability to work with tight deadlines.
