Position Summary:

Reporting to the Hospitality Manager, the Cook I, practicing under the provincial Nutrition and Food Services Standards and Canada’s Dietary Guidelines, impacts resident centered care by providing a varied, nutritious, healthy and high-quality meal service. The main accountabilities of the position are assisting Cook II in preparing and producing meals, supervising, and directing the Food and Nutrition Services staff, and ensuring all food preparation and handling is done in a safe and satisfactory manner. The incumbent in the position fosters and maintains effective relationships with site staff, professionals from other disciplines, residents and family members.

The incumbent also acts as a role model and ambassador for the Mission and Values of the Foundation.

Qualifications

Experience/Education:

  • Red Seal - Journeyman Cook – preferred but not required
  • Level Two Food Safe course or Food, Sanitation and Hygiene Certificate
  • WHMIS Certificate
  • Up to date clinical nutrition and food services knowledge
  • Two years of cooking experience
  • Experience with monitoring waste, auditing and calculating food costs
  • Experience with use and maintenance of commercial Food Service Equipment
  • Experience with inventory management, receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates and minimizing waste
  • Experience in care of the elderly and dementia care an asset

Skills Required:

  • Effective verbal and written communication (English) skills with internal and external customers.
  • Computer skills.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict in a professional manner.
  • Ability to accept, implement and evaluate change with a positive attitude.
  • Exhibits strong knowledge and skill in seniors, healthcare or relevant speciality.
  • Exhibits excellent leadership communication and analytical skills.
  • Works within the Mission and Values of LCC.
  • Exhibits strong problem-solving, critical thinking and customer service skills.

Ability to communicate in Cantonese/Mandarin will be considered an asset.

Our facility requires continuous masking, for staff to have minimum of 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccination and follows all policies and protocols as mandated by AHS.
