Proof of Education Diploma/Degree/Certificate in relevant field of study and/or 3 years experience.

Under the general direction and supervision of the Facility Manager: Prepares and serves meals for up to ten (10) young persons, in a Secure Custody Facility for youth ages 12-17, and attendant staff; prepares refreshments for meetings as required, performing these and other duties as may be required.

  • Planning nutritious seasonal menus appropriate for growing adolescents following the Canada Food Guide.
  • Preparing meals and refreshments following safe food handling guidelines.
  • Purchasing quality supplies within the allocated budget.
  • Maintaining hygienic storage methods.
  • Carrying out dishwashing in an approved sanitary fashion.
  • Maintaining equipment in good working order.
  • Exercising control of all equipment to ensure security.
  • Instructing staff and residents in the proper use of equipment.
  • Instructing staff on matters of hygiene and health as such relate to the use of the kitchen by staff and
  • Co-operating with staff for the good order of the house.
  • Establishing good working relationships with suppliers, service and maintenance contractors, and public health officials.

Mandatory requirements for application of a Residential Cook:

  • Criminal reference check declared suitable for vulnerable sector employment,
  • Up-to-date Immunization status according to national standards, including proof of prior Two-step TB testing.
  • Covid-19- second dose and boosters
  • Current First Aid / CPR-C certificate
  • Valid class G driver’s license and offense-free driving
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a physician’s note indicating their fitness to work as per the job description within 10 days prior to hire.
  • Computer skills
  • Bilingualism and volunteer experience are assets.

Applicants for a Residential Cook must be available to work Monday-Friday; hours may vary according to need and availability, up to 40 hours per week.

Wage: $38,667.20 annually.
