GENERAL FUNCTION:
As a member of the Association Services department, the Coordinator, Strategic Initiatives & Innovation reports directly to the Director, Strategic Initiatives & Innovation. Together, this team collaborates with all YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka departments and staff, fostering innovation and offering seamless information, insights, training and support to help action and meet Association deliverables that elevate the YMCA experience while driving advancement and growth for the organization. The Coordinator, Strategic Initiatives & Innovation will provide well-rounded coordination and support involving a variety of areas such as research, scheduling, communication, project management, presentations and reports, training, and program, service or process design.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates strong support and commitment to the mission, vision, core values and strategic plans of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada.
  • Demonstrates strong support and commitment to serving all participants, clients, customers, donors, families, members, sponsors, staff, volunteers, etc. of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
  • Researches and reviews the vulnerable populations and communities of need that the YMCA is best suited to serve, utilizes internal and external resources to meet the YMCA Simcoe/ Muskoka's learning in the areas of: Mental Health, Poverty and Homelessness.
  • Using research, analytics, and outcomes data, helps the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Innovation continuously assess and understand the external environment and/or competitive landscape. Monitors long-term trends and outlook, analyzing relevance, sustainability, and impact for programs and locations, while seeking funding opportunities for these strategic initiatives.
  • Participates in the innovation cycle from idea generation to execution. Provides day-to-day support for YMCA Admin Dash groups, Innovation committees, and other special pilot projects.
  • Helps develop business proposals/cases/plans for proposed new projects and initiatives, resources and training for implementation, evaluations, and when successful, assists to integrate and scale successes into ongoing YMCA operations.
  • Reviews tools, workflows, systems and processes, leveraging technology or automation where possible, and provides recommendations or guidance that helps support effective and efficient administration.
Collects and shares data that will assist senior leaders to make decisions about the present situation at the YMCA, and to help inform and guide future projects or opportunities. Prepare reports to celebrate outcomes of strategic initiatives.
  • Engages the community, collecting data and feedback, and with this information, sharing reports, recommendations and insights, as well as developing resources that help elevate the YMCA experience across all areas and locations.
  • Engages external organizations, donors or funders, government agencies or companies to catalyze partnerships that help advance the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College or University Post-Secondary Education required, preferably in business, technology or social services.
  • A passion for continuous learning and managing change, with the confidence to collaborate with diverse groups of people, and a high tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Experience with process improvement methods such as Lean Six Sigma, Design Thinking or Agile would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated influencing skills, with the ability to be creative, curious and collaborative in generating ideas to solve key challenges, as well as use effective facilitation, persuasion and negotiation abilities to achieve consensus, resolve conflict and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Proven experience in research and analysis, collecting and reporting data, and benchmarking, with the ability to translate into actionable insights and recommendations (putting theory into practice!)
  • Must have over 2 years’ experience in a similar role with high attention to detail and accuracy, excellent presentation skills, and proficiency in Office 365 applications.
  • 1-2 years of Customer Centered experience (virtual or in-person) with well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport, proactively resolve conflict, and provide excellent service to all members of the YMCA community.
  • Exercises initiative, self-direction and problem-solving abilities to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement. Able to self-motivate, manage time, and work independently.
  • A complete understanding of YMCA programs and services, as well as the participant experience is preferred (knowledge of CRM tactics would be an asset).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to work remotely, collaborating within a virtual/online environment, and at times, be available to work in-person at a variety of locations (with reliable transportation and flexible hours based on association needs).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required certifications including a Clear Police Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening, Child Protection orientation, AODA training, Health & Safety Awareness training, Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) training, PCI Compliance, and others as needed.
