Reporting to the Deputy Director of Corrections, the Corrections Training and Development Manager (Manager) promotes correctional system as a healing environment with appropriate security measures and case management techniques. The position ensures all correctional staff receive the training necessary to perform their duties in a way that respects the divisions mandate and the governments Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principals.

The Manager plays an integral role in developing annual training schedules that meet the needs of correctional staff, and ensures all training, certifications adhere to applied acts, regulations, and directives. The incumbent must develop, monitor, and coordinate all specialized training contracts that may be required to ensure training needs are being met in all areas of the corrections division. The Manager will ensure the delivery systems are in place to assist with the specific government hiring plans and promoting staff retention, individualized career advancement as well as a safe healing environment for all clients. The incumbent shall remain cognizant of all updated human resource strategies that may require further course development for delivery to divisional staff.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities would be acquired through completion of a university degree in Education, Adult learning, Sociology, Criminal justice, or related program of studies. Three (3) years’ related experience in developing, facilitating and evaluating corrections career training and development programs plus a minimum of one year (1) supervisory experience in corrections are required for this position. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
