Position Description


Data Analyst/ Programmer

A Data Analyst/Programmer is required to work with the CHILD Cohort Study. The CHILD Cohort Study
(childstudy.ca) is a national birth cohort study involving over 3,300 Canadian children and their families. The
Study explores how genetics and early childhood environmental exposures impact the development of asthma,
allergies, and other chronic childhood diseases. The Study has recruitment sites in Vancouver, Edmonton,
Winnipeg, and Toronto, with the National Coordinating Centre (NCC) located at McMaster University in
Hamilton, Ontario. We seek a creative, and methodologically trained data analyst to join our team and advance
our Study.


Here's What You Get to Do:
  • Collecting data and migrating data into the database
  • Integrating data from discrete datasets
  • Data modelling and database design for research dataset
  • Creating graphical representations of very high level, physical and logical models and other schemata for
various project proposals
  • Developing and providing reports for participating investigators and stakeholders based on the
aforementioned data
  • Performing data management to ensure accuracy, quality and consistency
  • Extracting data merged from different data formats obtained from the project portal
  • Conducting procedures for data cleaning, translation and verification
  • Communicating effectively and independently with project stakeholders to elicit requirements
  • Performing data validation and massaging to ensure accuracy and quality of data
  • Maintain security of all data files
  • Respond to inquires received from project personnel regarding relevant project issues and procedures
  • Enter data collected from various sources such as paper documents, electronic entry systems, and the
telephone
  • Develop presentations and present training sessions
  • Participate in project meetings and propose recommendations for procedure modifications and
development in the areas of data management, quality control and assurance
  • Attend and participate in project meetings

Here's What You Need:
  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or equivalent experience
  • Experience with clinical research data
  • Experience in data technologies, such as: SQL, XML, SAS
  • Some programming experience with R, SAS, Python or similar statistical computing and data analysis
programming languages
  • Experience with electronic data capture (EDC) systems, such as REDCap and EPIC
  • Experience in database development and the ability to conceptualize project goals into standardized data
management practices
  • Experience in data mining for advanced analysis of data and large volume data conversion, data cleansing,
