Job Description:
The Department Assistant provides general administrative support to the College Advancement department. This position is the primary contact for all donation inquiries, providing support in all areas of fundraising management including processing donations, maintaining donor database, and coordinating fundraising activities. Assists with alumni inquiries and assisting with alumni activities as required.
Qualifications Required:
Education & Experience
  • Grade 12 completion plus over 1 year of post secondary training including secretarial training, business administration or public relations. Specialized training in fundraising preferable.
  • 4 years related experience required, including a minimum of 2 years experience working in a senior secretarial capacity.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience with donor management software is an asset.
  • Intermediate knowledge in the use of computer software applications including word processing (MS Word) and spreadsheets (Excel).
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to take and transcribe minutes.
  • Keyboarding skill of 55 wpm.
  • Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and the ability to compose non-routine correspondence, reports and memoranda without dictation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with the general public, donors, faculty, staff, students, corporate and government agencies, volunteers and private organizations.
  • Proven organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to handle confidential material with discretion.
  • Ability to work well under the pressure of difficult deadlines and heavy workloads.
  • Ability to act with independence of judgement with minimal supervision.
Hours & Days of Work: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
