JOB DESCRIPTION – Director of Operations

Reports to: Executive Director
Status: Full Time 40 hrs weekly

Committed to the philosophy of Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North, the incumbent will be a ‘people person’ with exceptional communication and organizational skills, superior attention to detail, ability to work under tight deadlines, and able to work with a minimum of supervision. The position will focus on Retail Excellence and Procurement of high-quality goods.

Summary: The primary role of the Director of Operations will be to drive revenue into the affiliate operations through collaboration with Habitat Canada, other affiliates, local partners, and the General Managers.

Highlighted Responsibilities:

● Lead a team of two General Managers and a Volunteer Manager who are responsible for the day-to-day Operations, forecasting and growth, volunteer recruitment and retention and overall leadership in the ReStores.

● Continue to build on the operational excellence in our ReStores. Working with the GM’s
Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement.

● Be the single point of contact with respect to identifying and advocating for new infrastructure, supporting new store openings. Identify, solve and/or escalate sales driving or profit maximizing opportunities, and protect the business in response to extenuating incidents.

● Monitor profitability with P&L responsibility with respect to the ReStores
● Procurement: Drive procurement of merchandise for the two ReStores through a variety of channels
● Manage ReStore GIK relationship with Habitat Canada and other affiliates

● Work with the Executive Director and other members of the Executive team to advise the
Board of Directors when setting strategic goals for the organization

● Mentor and Support the ReStore GMs to ensure revenue and expense targets are met
● Oversee ReStore processes to gain efficiencies
● Lead IT and telecommunication planning, maintenance and procurement
● Participate in fundraising efforts of HFHVIN where needed
● Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Core Responsibilities
● Grow revenue within ReStores
● Research social enterprise revenue opportunities
● Direct & manage organizational rolling stock (vehicles)
● Develop & manage ReStore, IT & Vehicle budgets in collaboration with ED & CFO

Safety

● Ensure a safe, healthy, and supportive environment in accordance with all appropriate workplace safety legislation and regulations

● Collaborate with Build Site Management to ensure a safe environment

Projects, Special Events & Meetings
● Attend affiliate and build-related meetings as required.
● Establish and work within budget
● In collaboration with the affiliate team, develop and deliver presentations to groups and organizations.
● Attend Habitat Canada AGM, webinars and forums, and pursue other local and national continuing education opportunities relevant to the role.
● Participate in fund development events or community engagement events as necessary.

Management, Decision-Making & Reporting
● Create monthly reports for the Executive Director.
● Devise and implement Business plans for capital acquisitions, ReStore property decisions, etc.
● Liaise with the Executive Director to prepare annual department budgets.

Job Type: Full-time

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
