Job Summary

The Director of Operations will be responsible for achieving challenging business objectives, delivering high levels of customer satisfaction, always ensuring compliance with Health Canada rules and GMP guidelines and fostering strong and pro-active management of the Distribution Centre. The Director of Operations plans, directs and coordinates all distribution activities and will ensure to keep up to date with competitive activity, risks and opportunities. The Director of Operations will always act upon opportunities to add value and profitability by using initiative and seeking out innovative solutions or cost savings.

Specific Responsibilities


The tasks and duties of the afore mentioned position include:

  • Overall management and accountability of the Distribution Centre and the customers the DC serves

  • Develop, implement and ensure service and KPIs levels are met in compliance with signed manufacturer / customer agreements

  • Draw up, have approved, and administer the budget for the DC. Develop and implement operational tactics for controlling operating costs and improving efficiencies at the Distribution Center. Foster a culture of continuous improvement

  • Monitor inventory and complete forensic inventory analyses to ensure inventory accuracy

  • Participate in strategic development and planning activities, as well as in the implementation of activities and programs. In conjunction with other departments respond to RFI, RFP, RFT or RFQ and ensure solutions are developed and implemented to achieve the McKesson Specialized Distribution (MSD) strategy

  • Anticipate and respond quickly to customers’ needs and changes – proactively seeking out information from the customer to ensure the Specialty division stays ahead

  • Responsible for ensuring that the information technology available is used properly and for identifying opportunities for IT developments

  • Ensure all requirements relating to security, safety & health, environment and quality are being fully implemented and are consistently respected at the Distribution Center

  • Responsible for ensuring that SOPs reflect the operational reality across the Distribution Center and are in accordance with manufacturer SOPs or work procedures, as required. These may mean managing different sets of SOPs based on the distribution model chosen by the client (3PL, Consignment, or Wholesale)

  • Responsible for ensuring that Health Canada rules and GMP guidelines are implemented and respected (warehouse, transportation), and that all employees in the Distribution Center are trained.

  • Responsible for ensuring that Business Continuity Plans are developed, tested, continuously updated and that employees are trained

  • Promote the company’s vision and values, leading the way in demonstrating McKesson’s people culture, to ensure that the team feels valued, listened to and appreciated

  • Ensure that staff members have the tools and training they need to do their jobs well. Develop and implement professional development and succession planning programs. Ensure cross-trained personnel and a polyvalent work force

  • Being consistently visible within the facility – provide an approachable and open-minded style, in order to allow people to feel “in touch” with the DO and his / her plan, be an enabler of the Culture of Excellence

  • Ensure that the entire team at the Distribution Centre has clear and realistic targets and SLAs

  • Create and cultivate good business relationships with customers and other industry players

  • Oversee import/export brokerage relationships and process.

General Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain employee engagement: Develop action plan to address survey outcomes

  • Plan the activities of staff reporting to him or her, evaluate results, and take appropriate steps to improve individual performance

  • Identify the human resources needed to do the work, delegate appropriate responsibilities and authority to employees reporting to him or her, and recommend organizational changes as needed

  • Manage the activities of staff under his or her responsibility, and coordinate with other groups and departments

  • Train employees, evaluate their performance, and encourage and support their professional development

  • Authorize requests, expenses and other financial transactions under his or her responsibility and protect the company's profits and assets from loss and waste

  • Ensure that company policies are respected.

Position Requirements

  • University degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or a related Supply Chain Management program;

  • 10+ years of pertinent operational experience with a proven track record;

  • Recognized knowledge of 3PL models, distribution, transportation, logistics information systems and their applications in a Pharmaceutical environment;

  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze results and respond effectively and efficiently;

  • Very strong communication and presentation skills;

  • A professional, confident, and strategic relationship builder;

  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills; self-starter, decisive and results oriented.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; highly people oriented; excels in a team environment;

  • Strong executive presence, ability to deal with senior executives and manage their accounts;

  • Accountable and results oriented;

  • Collaborative and capable of functioning with confidence and credibility at the senior level of the client organization;

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office; Word, Excel;

  • Knowledge of GIP, GMP and GDP will be considered an asset.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$112,300 - $187,100
