The YMCA of Cape Breton is seeking a driven and passionate professional to join our team as Director of People and Culture.

Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of People & Culture will play a leading role in ensuring that the YMCA of Cape Breton is well-positioned to deliver effective Human Resource functions that align with our shared values and mission, as well as independent strategic and operational plans in all of our sites across Cape Breton Island. The Director of People and Culture will provide strategic direction, leadership and oversight on all human resource functions including performance management and succession planning, HR reporting and analytics, training and development, recruitment and retention, as well as overall employee engagement and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives.

In support of our mandate, team and partners, the Director of People and Culture will:

· Develop standardized recruitment tools and campaigns to attract talent for all of our sites across the Island;

· Provide strategic leadership in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion;

· Work collaboratively with members of the team to turn ideas related to diversity, equity and inclusion into initiatives and ultimately, action;

· Develop and implement tools, resources, and training to ensure Association’s Managers are equipped to follow established procedures and policies;

· Provide coaching and expert input to managers on complex individual cases related to recruitment, performance, leaves or termination;

· Advise on local implementation for changing legislation and labour standards;

· Spearhead strategic HR initiatives identified to be of benefit including compensation reviews, diversity training, succession planning, and employee engagement;

· Engage regularly with managers of YMCA of Cape Breton to understand their needs and opportunities for enhanced support;

· Work with YCB Human Resources Generalist to ensure appropriate level of support to Association Managers and backfill duties of HR Generalist as required;

· Partner with management to ensure that annual performance evaluations are completed in a timely manner and are used to increase employee morale, productivity and development with specific and measurable goals identified and a clear plan outlined and communicated to all;

· Update and maintain organizational charts;

· Participate in a working group of HR professionals from across Canada to identify strategic priorities and inform the successful development and implementation of innovative ideas in areas such as Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; and

· Other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Qualifications

· Post-secondary degree/certificate in Human Resources Management.

· CPHR designation would be an asset;

· 5-7 Years of progressive experience in Human Resources or Organizational Development

· Experience in non-profit sector would be an asset;

· 3-5 Years of Supervisory/Management experience;

· Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and background in developing high performance employee culture;

· Working knowledge of provincial employment legislation, common law;

· Strong collaboration, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills;

· Demonstrated ability to handle multiple, competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment;

· Excellent attention to detail and commitment to process improvement;

· High level of diplomacy and demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, confidential situations and information.

· Ability to travel across all YMCA of Cape Breton sites

· Excellent verbal and written skills

· Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License or access to reliable transportation

· Flexibility to work outside of regular work hours on an as needed basis

Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training, as well as successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.

Salary: From $60,000.00 per year
