Position Overview:
WELL Health is currently searching for a motivated team player for a full-time Director, Tax. Reporting to the VP, Finance, you play a key role in leading activities within the Tax functions and in managing its wide range of initiatives. You bring to the table demonstrated success and best practices in tax planning, compliance and accounting, ideally ata a public company with both Canadian and U.S. operations and exposures. You have a high level of integrity and are constantly striving to improve processes and mitigate financial risk. The role requires the team member to be confident, and assertive, have excellent communication skills, and be a great multi-tasker who understands how to prioritize and manage expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversees tax planning, compliance, accounting and reporting activities for the WELL companies.
  • Works with senior management to develop and implement tax planning solutions for strategic transactions and special projects
  • Identifies and evaluates tax risks and exposures and recommends viable solutions for mitigation
  • Leads preparation of quarterly and year-end tax provisions and disclosures for audited financial statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Coordinates and leads quarterly review and annual audit of tax provision with external auditors
  • Leads process for preparing and filing Canadian, US, and other foreign tax returns. Ensures tax returns are filed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Manages the process for preparing claims for Canadian Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax credits
  • Develops and monitors transfer-pricing policies and agreements, ensuring proper documentation to meet compliance requirements
  • Oversees indirect tax compliance and reporting, including sales/use, PST/GST/HST, VAT and other non-income tax issues
  • Manages external service providers to the extent they are engaged to assist with various tax planning and compliance matters
  • Oversees responses to tax audits and inquiries by governmental authorities
  • Remains current with IFRS tax accounting developments and Canadian and US tax law, and maintains awareness of international tax trends and developments
  • Partners and builds effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, communicating and documenting the status of tax projects and issues as appropriate
  • Supervises, develops and leads the tax team by managing timelines and performance, setting goals and objectives, and providing ongoing mentorship and training
  • Drives continuous improvements for and compliance with internal controls, policies, processes and procedures used in the tax department

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in the Tax function or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Professional designation of CPA (CA, CMA or CGA) and completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a proven ability to take initiative, lead by example, and establish effective and collaborative working relationships
  • Structured, disciplined, and organized with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of IFRS accounting for income taxes.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Canadian taxation, with strong competencies in U.S. and global issues pertaining to Canadian companies with foreign subsidiaries
  • Experience with planning and optimizing tax structures and M&A due diligence and integration;
  • Demonstrated high level of integrity and ethics.
