Summary:
Under the direction of the Team Lead, the Dredge Operator is responsible for the operations of the dredge on a tailings pond in a safe, productive, and efficient manner according to the scope of the project and the work being performed. The operator will also keep clean and maintain the equipment and comply with all policies and procedures in the operation and securement of the equipment.
This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.

Key Focus:
  • Operate a dredge to clear materials and settlement buildup in a tailings pond from mining related activities in a safe, productive, and efficient manner.
  • Perform manual labour; pipe bolt ups, pump setups and removal, setting anchor for the dredge, and operating/removing the tender boat as needed.
  • Conduct pre-operational and post-operational checks on equipment, keep equipment clean, and perform any basic maintenance or troubleshooting as required
  • Accept instructions from the Team Lead and/or Shift Supervisor as directed, move/relocate the dredge, and adjust work and strategy according to changing conditions, policies, and procedures as needed.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, provide suggestions for improvement and safety.
  • Advise Team Lead or Shift Supervisor of any required maintenance or repairs of the equipment.
  • Maintain a safe disposition at all times, ensure the safety of the client site and more importantly, the safety of fellow personnel/drivers.
  • Shift schedule: 6 on, 6 off, days and nights are required; 12 hour shifts.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
  • Valid class 5 license is required.
  • Satisfactory 3 year drivers abstract
  • CSO or BSO or OSSA is required.
  • Candidates with Ground Disturbance are an asset.
  • A basic knowledge of computers are an asset.
  • 1-3 years of verifiable experience in an equipment operating role within an Oilsands Mining, Civil Construction, or Earthworks environment is required.
  • Experience with various pieces of heavy equipment (Dozer, Excavator, Grader, Loader, Articulated Truck is an asset)
  • Ability to speak, write and read English is required.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray, AB on Syncrude Site.
