TSMC operates a complex regulatory site spanning 2 provinces, located in a remote northern region, approximately 20 km from the community of Schefferville, Quebec. The site is more than 30 km long and includes several active pits, as well as an ore processing plant. The Environment team is responsible for ensuring that TSMC meets all of its environmental obligations, which include the conditions set out in various permits, certificates of authorization and provincial, territorial and federal regulations, in both official languages.


Reporting to the Director of Environment, the Mining Environment Engineer manages projects aimed at managing emissions and discharges, including the environmental monitoring of mining operations.

Major responsibilities
:

  • Collect, analyze and report annually on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data at the provincial (Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec) and federal levels;
  • Collect, analyze and produce annual data reporting for the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI);
  • Assist the Director in administrative, operational and staff coordination tasks;
  • Perform the entry and follow-up of transactions of requests for services and materials on SAP;
  • Participate in the annual budget evaluation (OPEX and CAPEX) of environmental projects related to mining operations;
  • Provide technical support to ensure environmental compliance of mining operations, monitoring of key performance indicators (KPI) and risk assessment;
  • Participate in the updating of monthly and annual reports and documents related to the Environmental Management System (EMS);
  • Ensures that work performed by contractors and consultants is carried out safely and in accordance with the project budget;
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to Environment team staff;
  • Ensure good relations with various stakeholders, including government stakeholders;
  • Adhere to the corporate culture focused on health and safety, the environment and sustainable development.


Qualification and experience required:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or a related discipline combined with more than five years of experience in environmental monitoring in the mining field;
  • Experience in collecting and analyzing data for the calculation of GHG emissions to file reports at the provincial and federal levels;
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data for the calculation of emissions and releases to produce the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) report;
  • In-depth knowledge of effective environmental legislation, standards and practices of the mining industry;
  • Experience as a technical advisor for a wide range of environmental projects related to the northern mining industry and in interaction with First Nations;
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, including operational, engineering and management staff of consultants and contractors.


Desired skills:

  • Fluency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, knowledgeof SAP management software would be an asset;
  • Highly organized with excellent prioritization skills;
  • Adapts well to change, a high level of initiative and a flexible team spirit;
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing conditions ;
  • Knowledge of engineering software is an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is imperative.

Position based in Montreal during the winter season and on the mine site (rotation2 weeks) from April to October.
