Job Description:

The ESG Investment Data Analyst will aid in enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of reporting supporting the delivery of Canada Life’s parent company, Great-West Lifeco’s, ESG commitments. This includes Lifeco’s commitment to achieve net zero for operations and financed emissions in the general account by 2050.


The ESG Investment Data Analyst will be responsible for coordinating the collection and analysis of sustainability investment data related to investee companies in the general account and will support Lifeco’s regional and affiliate investment teams.


What you will do


Support the ESG Investment Reporting Manager in data collection and verification to develop various ESG disclosures:

  • Design and implement processes that will support the timely delivery of complete and accurate ESG investment data, such as financed emissions profiles of various Lifeco portfolios, to stakeholders to enable critical investment analysis capabilities
  • Work with Investment and Information Services teams to update and continuously improve the Company’s global investment data and related reporting systems. Support changes and improvements to technology and data storage.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop innovative ESG analysis on the Company’s consolidated investment portfolio. Regular tracking required on performance of key metrics, and the provision of auditable annual metrics for external reporting.
  • Collaborate with regional investment teams on data improvement projects. Coordinate the collection and analysis of the sustainability data from and for the different regional investment teams.
  • Evaluate new and alternative data sources and new data integration techniques.
  • Perform user acceptance tests for production deployment.
  • Develop and maintain a collection of ESG metric definitions and templates.
  • Support in identifying root causes of ESG integration gaps and solutions to close these gaps.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with stakeholders, including data providers, NGOs, ratings agencies, internal management, and company executives.
What you will bring


Knowledge & Expertise

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in one of the following: commerce, finance, accounting, actuarial, business analytics, computer science, statistics and mathematics or a related field;
  • 2-3 years' experience in finance, consulting, investor relations, corporate reporting, investment banking, or a related field;
  • Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following fields is an asset: business, management, risk management, sustainable development, sustainable finance, consulting, finance, capital markets, corporate reporting, investor relations, governance, climate change.

Attributes

  • Highly knowledgeable in data management concepts and best practices, and experienced in automating processes
  • Strong data analytics and visualization skills, comfortable working with large datasets, using Business Intelligence and/or reporting tools (query structured databases)
  • Expert user of Excel and proficiency with SQL query tools is required
  • Ability to build strong relationships, internally and externally, with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Familiarity on ESG related matters and/or with ESG-related standards and frameworks including EU SFDR, GRI, PCAF and TCFD
  • Keen analytical thinking
  • Data driven; detail oriented
  • Continuous learning mindset (professional curiosity)
  • Knowledge of corporate sustainability reporting and experience working with Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau or Microsoft Azure is an asset
