Apex Well Servicing is hiring a full-time position for an experienced Derrickhand. The successful candidate will have experience working in an exciting atmosphere, where you have the opportunity to grow successfully as an individual and part of our Apex Team. This position will be based All over Alberta. Apex can facilitate accommodations and a flexible schedule for the successful candidate. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· The Derrickhand position is deemed to be a “Safety Sensitive” position due to the proximity of heavy industrial machinery. A Derrickhand handles the uppermost section of the drilling string as it is brought from or lowered into the wellbore or drill hole. A Derrickhand oversees some of the machinery on the rig and is responsible for the conditioning of the drilling fluid and the circulation machinery. The Derrickhand spends 25% of his time up the rigs derrick and plays the lead role in stacking and guiding pipe as it is tripped in and out or reconnected into the hole. A Derrickhand works with the mud systems, monitors weight and mixes weight properly while reporting any changes. The position requires mixing chemicals, monitoring pump manifolds and most importantly, good communication with the Driller and the Rig Manager.

  • Some experience working at heights with the use of special fall restraint equipment
  • Complete minor maintenance and checks on equipment
  • Ensure safety for all team members and property
  • Work as part of a team and follow direction from supervision
  • Learn new skills every day by rigging in and out specialty equipment
  • Leave the job site in better condition that when we got there. Clean, safe and job done.
  • Haul hoses, Personal Protective Equipment and tools to where the work is being done
  • Assist on Rig floor tripping pipe and house keeping
  • Support equipment maintenance
  • Assist with rig moves
  • Following and enforcing
  • Ability to perform physical task
  • Understanding job scope potential hazards, rules and regulations

Role Specifications:

  • 1-2 years’ experience on a rod Rig, Service Rig
  • Valid Class 5,5Q, 1,3 license
  • Clean 5-year commercial driving abstract
  • Able to Pass negative result on a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Common Safety Orientation certification is required
  • Having First Aid, H2S Alive - Required
  • BOP - Required
  • Fall Rescue/Protection for rig workers - Required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • You are safety focused when it comes to people and equipment
  • Experience working at heights with the use of special fall restraint equipment
  • Perform physically demanding work including climbing multiple flights of stairs and carrying equipment (able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis)
  • Experience and comfort with confined spaces such as a small vessel/tank or trench
  • Enjoy working outdoors even in harsh weather conditions
  • Comfortable with the use of additional respiratory equipment and air supply; wearing a full-face mask and carrying your own source of oxygen
  • You have the ability to work well in a team, share a laugh with your coworkers and get the job done safely
  • We have great training and your ability to read and write will ensure you meet the testing requirements
