The Community Services Department is seeking motivated individuals to provide Inclusion Support to the summer 2023 Day Camp Program for children 4 to 13 years of age. Reporting to the Inclusion Coordinator, the Inclusion Support Facilitator will provide one-on-one support for children with exceptional needs ensuring the participant can participate in meaningful recreation while having their physical, social, emotional, health and behavioural needs met in a safe and supportive environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide management and support of individual participant needs through direct intervention, observation and the creation and implementation of personalized resources

· Provide program participants with direct personal care in accordance with the personal safety plan from a school or authorized agency which may include administration of feeding, dressing, hygiene, lifting and position and assistance with mobility

· Maintain a safe environment by responding immediately with interventions using the participants safety plan in situations where a participant is escalated and/or posing a safety risk to themselves or others

· Develop and prepare materials of programs that assist in the promotion of integration, participation and successful transfer of knowledge, and work in collaboration within the team to demonstrate, utilize and facilitate methods that will enhance participation in accordance with the personal safety plan.

Key Competencies & Qualifications

  • At least two years of post secondary education in a related field is required
  • Preference given to those who are enrolled in/or have completed post-secondary education in recreation, therapeutic recreation, educational assistant program, or child youth worker program
  • One year related experience as a camp counselor with preference given to those who have experience as an Education Assistant (EA) or in an Inclusion Facilitator/Development Support worker role
  • Must hold a valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certificate

· Training & demonstrated skills in de-escalation strategies (including Crisis Prevention Intervention or Behaviour Management System certification), lifting and position techniques required for this position.

  • High Five Training and Safeguard (Lifesaving Society) is strongly recommended
  • Must be available to work varying shifts between the hours of 7:30am and 5:00pm

· Must be able to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies and the public

  • must complete a successful Vulnerable Sector Screening as a pre-condition of employment

The hourly rate for this position is $27.06 (2023 rates) per hour.
