Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the CNO & Director: Patient Services, the Facility Patient Care Manager provides leadership in the directing and coordinating of all patient care, support service, administrative and organizational activities in the absence of Senior and unit/department Managers. The Facility Patient Care Manager assumes site responsibility and is accountable to the President and CEO. She/he is responsible for the management of assigned direct reports and other scheduled staff; the promotion of quality in care and service; the mitigation of risk to promote patient and staff safety; the interpretation and application of policies and collective agreements; and initial coordination of the Incident Command Structure in the event of facility emergency. The Facility Patient Care Manager demonstrates a commitment to the mission, vision, values, goals and objectives of Riverview Health Centre.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience in the healthcare field in a facility with geriatric, rehabilitation or palliative care services.
  • Minimum 2 years current supervisory or management experience.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a recognized university.
  • Master’s Degree in management, health care administration or related field preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Active status registration in the relevant licensing/registering body with proof of such status being provided.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge and application of the standards and scope of practice for health care professionals.
  • Knowledge and application of pertinent, professional Codes of Ethics.
  • Knowledge and application of the standards pertaining to support service operations.
  • Knowledge and application of the standards pertaining to Facility and Plant Management
  • Knowledge and application of quality and risk management processes and strategies.
  • Knowledge and application of Regional/Facility/discipline specific policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge and application of the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and other legislated acts.
  • Knowledge of the application of relevant collective agreements.
  • Knowledge of the application of principles of management and leadership.
  • Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of all staff.
  • Knowledge of the computerized staff scheduling system and the associated principles of staffing.
  • Ability to effectively use supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to apply the skills of critical thinking, decision making and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and allocate and/or reallocate resources as appropriate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, using both oral and written formats.
  • Ability to delegate appropriately and provide appropriate supervision of staff performance.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to function effectively, efficiently and independently.
  • Ability to plan, manage and implement change.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to function in a computerized environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical and mental health to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
