Fibre Optic Drop Technician
This position is for the installation of underground and aerial drop cable into various residential and multi-dwelling units. Technician will be asked to provide reports of each job site and work is expected to be completed with minimal supervision.
Must be willing to learn from team members.
Must have safe driving record.
Drug and alcohol free.
Responsibilities:
- Install aerial and/or underground fibre optic drops from outside terminals to customer premises with quality assurance while meeting task and project deadlines
- Install hardware and equipment such as NIBs, transition boxes and grounds
- Establish responsibility and care for equipment through preventive and ongoing maintenance
- Pull cable through conduit and ducting with the use of equipment and by hand
- Install various sizes & diameters of conduit in open trenches
- Interact with home and business owners with a high emphasis on customer service
- Perform carpentry labour tasks with the use of shovel and hand tools to complete each assignment
- Ensure effective use of time, materials, fuel, and equipment
- Work under the direction of the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Experience working in an outdoor construction environment
- Working at heights is a MUST.
- Previous experience with TELUS or Shaw is an asset.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to manage a physically demanding position that involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and in confined spaces
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills
