Based out of our Acheson Powell Service Division location, the Field Service Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of field service professionals and providing technical leadership and hands-on support to resolve customers' power delivery problems. Mentors the team to develop a high-performing team, and be responsible for the teams' performance. Capable of planning and leading a team to execute power delivery work, understand business profitability, and have a great customer reputation and entrepreneurial spirit.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee, manage and support a large group of field service professionals while ensuring all job tasks are effectively, efficiently, and safety being taken care of.
  • Assists in developing an annual plan to meet or exceed the teams business plan goals and in the achievement of annual plan revenue and profitability goals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal departments as well as all clients, vendors, contactors, Powell managers and employees
  • Provide support to co-workers, clients, and staff while ensuring all field staff have the required resources and assistance to effectively and efficiently complete job tasks
  • Assist in the recruitment of field staff with HR department and identifying labour needs.
  • Review monthly safety summaries and perform site inspections within assigned area to ensure best work practices and safety procedures are followed
  • Mentors and shows exceptional leadership to the employees.
  • Test, commission, program, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, retrofit and install high and low voltage power system equipment
  • Test, commission, troubleshoot, repair, erect, upgrade, various switchgear and E-Houses.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
  • Develop service work scopes and estimates for customers
  • Schedule and execute jobs on-time and on-budget with world-class quality.
  • Plan, coordinate, lead and direct activities for self and team to maximize productivity, utilization and profitability.
  • Guide, mentor and develop employees to improve their leadership, job management and technical skills.
  • Understand customer and market dynamics and implement strategy consistent with Powell objectives.
  • Own the business results of the team.
  • Reach out to customers to grow service opportunities. Work closely with our sales team to maintain, develop and expand customer base.
  • Identify and implement cost and process improvements and standardization to continuously improve cost productivity.
  • Set performance goals and perform yearly evaluation
  • Develop ongoing training & career planning for all Tech’s

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in an industrial electrical service environment.
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in a leadership role.
  • Payroll knowledge is preferred for reconciling and approving technicians' hours.
  • Skilled with Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, and Outlook. Business system experience in Oracle a plus.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical theory and electrical power distribution equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and demonstrated excellent leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulation
  • Must possess a valid driver license with a clean record.

  • Familiarity with environmental protection procedures and basic electrical safety practices
  • Make a work site and site activities safe for self and all other members of the site team
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on capability
  • Ability to understand documented instructions, procedures and electrical drawings, and develop the same
  • Well organized
  • Familiar with test equipment and testing procedures for power delivery
  • Talent Management: Responsible for assisting in the full-cycle recruitment process
  • Accountable for the financial, safety, quality, and other targets for the assigned district.
  • Implement company, divisional, and other initiatives, changes, etc. within the assigned district.
  • Oversee training of all PSD Technicians – working in conjunction with HR, Management, on in-house and external training.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to travel locally and nationally, work overtime/weekends and respond to weekend and off-hours service requests as required
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50% of the time

Physical Requirements

  • Be physically capable of lifting, carrying and moving up to 50lbs on a regular basis
  • Able to provide a negative pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Able to bend at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner.
  • Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs
