We provide consulting services to both private and public sectors for storm and sanitary sewer capacity assessment and optimization. We are looking for a Field Services Technician (co-op) to join the Field Operations team during Spring/Summer.

Reporting Relationships: Field Operations Manager


The Field Services Technician (FST) (Coop) is responsible for executing various services in the field to support the implementation of inflow and infiltration reduction projects. This would mainly involve driving a company vehicle to the site with another crew member and interacting with people in residential and sometimes commercial areas to conduct tests and evaluation surveys.


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tasks relating to inflow and infiltration field investigations including such as fog tests, dye tests, lot and manhole inspections. (Note: Other types of work could be assigned depending on the need and interest of the student.)
  • Complete on-site work including downloading and transmitting data, gathering photographs, videos, and other required information according to set standards.
  • Thoroughly document that site conditions and work is completed, and submit required reports.
  • Install and perform operational maintenance and troubleshooting of various equipment within sanitary sewers and other locations.
  • Occasionally coordinate with clients and handle any complaints from the public or other stakeholders onsite positively and respectfully.
  • Follow defensive driving principles and techniques, and road regulations especially regarding the rules and regulations concerning Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR)-type vehicles as applicable, particularly when driving to work sites.
  • Clean, organize, secure, and keep in good working condition own tools and equipment. Record operating parameters as needed such as mileage/hours used and fuel consumption of the assigned vehicle and generator sets and update vehicle logbook (daily).
  • Assist other crews in the field as directed.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate (co-op) student in any technical program preferably civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering/technology-related course who also enjoys working outdoors in various locations and is interested in learning more about water resources and infrastructure management.
  • Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office and communications software such as Outlook and Teams.
  • Has a strong safety mindset.

  • Has a G category license.
  • Experience driving vans, small trucks, trailers, and commercial vehicles a plus.
  • Experience and good aptitude working with tools, gadgets, and equipment are a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software is a plus.
  • Valid certifications on Defensive Driving, First Aid CPR Level C, Confined Space Entry. Working at Heights and Traffic Control (Book 7) is a plus.
  • Willing to occasionally perform work according to changing work schedules, weather conditions (e.g., evenings, weekends, night shifts, extended work hours, rain events), and work locations for extended periods.

Working Conditions: Normal working hours in a field environment. May experience adverse weather conditions. May be required to deal with difficult clients, homeowners, or contractors. Will likely deal under tight deadlines, and may be required to work overtime and/or weekends to meet project requirements. The position will include travel across Southern/Eastern Ontario and may occasionally require work during evenings and weekends.
