Under the general supervision of the IS Project Leader - ePCR, the Field Technology Support Specialist is responsible for the provision of technical and administrative support to field operations staff utilizing computer hardware and software applications including the Electronic Patient Care Reporting (ePCR) system. The Field Technology Support Specialist interacts with various groups, including operational paramedics and firefighters in the field, and partner groups such as Shared Health and the Main Street Project.

As the Field Technology Support Specialist, you will:

  • Provide a Help-Desk function for field computer technology hardware and software including: electronic patient care reporting system, monitor/defibrillator software, CAD dispatch software and other operational management applications.
    • Trouble-shoot and follow up on system problems reported by users and identify potentially serious system issues for further action or escalation.
    • Provide support and information on system functions and electronic documentation procedures and requirements.
    • Perform system testing and diagnostics to identify problems and propose resolutions.
  • Provides field support to WFPS staff and external partners including advising crews on how to properly complete electronic patient documentation, attending various locations to provide in-person servicing and technical support, and identifying training needs.
    • Notify District Chief Paramedic Operations of any required changes on patient documentation.
    • Deliver remote and in-field assistance to ensure proper use of hardware and systems.
    • Manage system issues and requirements for employees.
    • Identify training needs based on feedback and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Assist in identification and implementation of ePCR system configuration changes.
    • Identify requirements for system adjustments or revisions and configures the system to meet business requirements.
    • Test and validate configuration changes to ePCR system and monitor/defibrillator software.
    • Maintain a comprehensive log of system changes.
  • Perform any other duties consistent with the classification, as required.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • High school (Grade 12) graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Diploma in Health Information Management or Business Information Technology from a recognized college, or a graduate from a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) Program Certificate accredited by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) (prior to February 2018) or Accreditation Canada (after February 2018) and a valid Manitoba Health, Senior’s & Active Living Emergency Medical Service “Technician –Paramedic” License. Note: Consideration may be given to applicants with an acceptable and equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Several years of related experience in healthcare, paramedicine, and/or information systems and technology in a medical environment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Full Driver's License.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the ability to learn other internal software programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written including strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated computer/technological aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently, and organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills with an ability to investigate, identify and gather relevant information, analyze problems, identify root causes, and recommend solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and to perform detailed work accurately.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, and in a paramilitary organization.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and proper practices for sanitizing equipment.
  • Familiarity with IT project management practices would be an asset.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude, as well as to exercise sound judgement and perform well under pressure.
  • The following qualifications would be an asset for applicants to possess before hiring and/or must be acquired by the successful candidate after hiring within three (3) months working knowledge of the City and the WFPS’s:
