What you will be doing

  • Facilitate and execute orientation, refresher, and return to work food safety training for new and existing employees at Ontario facilities.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of food safety training matrix for Corporate Quality Assurance teams including Food Safety, Quality Performance, Animal Welfare, and Customer Relations.
  • Management and continuous improvement of current Food Safety Training matrices for on-floor employees such as Annual Critical Control Point (CCP) and technical/SOP training.
  • Perform monthly and as-needed food safety on-site verification of procedures and work instructions including (but not limited to) manufacturing instructions, CCP/Preventive control procedures, and quality checks using Alchemy Coach.
  • Communicates any unsuccessful training events and supports corrective actions including retraining or one-on-one coaching for successful completion.
  • Develops and delivers monthly communication on a specific food safety topic. Communication may include in person meetings, communication board materials, pre-shift talks, and/or train the trainer approach.
  • On-going verification of training materials and delivery to agency workers.
  • Develops, monitors, and reports on key performance indicators for food safety training.
  • Supports content development by summarizing and reporting on feedback obtained from food safety training events and suggesting ways to continuously improve.
  • Supported by cross functional teams, develops, and maintains one-point lessons for critical food safety and quality competencies.
  • Presents relevant findings at monthly Management Review meetings.
  • Attends and assists in providing necessary documentation when third party audits occur.


What you will bring

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in learning and development and/or quality assurance in the food manufacturing industry (preferably in meat and a unionized environment);
  • Working knowledge of food and meat plant regulatory standards (CFIA, etc.), GMP, HACCP, BRC, food safety, food quality, etc.
  • Team-player with excellent leadership skills, able to motivate others, negotiate effectively, and interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work / excel in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential.
  • General computer skills (e.g., MS Office)
  • Undergraduate degree in related field required.
