Reporting to: Food Truck Supervisor and/or Food & Hospitality Manager

Time Requirement: 40 hours per week (some evenings and weekends may be required)

Hourly Wage: $20.50


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Food Truck Lead is responsible for engaging with guests and students through genuine customer service while processing orders and preparing food/drink items. In the course of this work, the Food Truck Lead will be required to operate cash registers, propane grills, and other cooking equipment. Occasionally, restocking and storing inventory will also be necessary.


In carrying out the duties of this position, a great deal of autonomy is exercised with final overview by the Food Services Supervisor. It is also important that the Food Truck Lead works extremely closely with the Food Services Supervisor to ensure that they are up to date on the basic overall operations of the Food Truck. In all activities, it is crucial that the Food Truck Lead recognizes that service to students and guests is a top priority.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General

  • Complete opening and closing procedures for the Food Truck, including financial reconciliations
  • Complete regular inventory checks of Food Truck ingredients/equipment
  • Order from food and beverage suppliers, ensuring demand is met and food waste is minimized
  • Stock and restock shelves, display cases, coolers, and front station according to CSSI guidelines
  • Supervise Food Truck Attendants in conjunction with the Food Services Supervisor, including duties related to coaching, guidance, and scheduling
  • Manage time and priorities to ensure all food orders are completed on time
  • Prepare food and drink items in accordance with the provided specifications/recipes
  • Operate propane grills and other kitchen equipment
  • Take orders and serve guests in accordance with CSSI’s guidelines for excellent customer service
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the products and pricing of food, beverages, and specials
  • Operate cash register to accept various types of tender from guests, provide proper change to guests, balance cash drawer and receipts, and document discrepancies
  • Count and handle cash with accuracy
  • Count till before every shift to ensure it contains the correct starting float amount
  • Complete accurate opening and closing reports
  • Track inventory and restock/store when needed
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment to ensure the health & safety of guests and coworkers at all times; clean and sanitize all work areas and frequently touched surfaces before and after every use, including (but not limited to): inside and outside of Food Truck, preparation area, cooking equipment, storage areas, floors, service areas
  • Work as a team with fellow Food Truck crew members

Other General Duties

  • Work in accordance with corporate by-laws, policies, and procedures, particularly to the CSSI Mission Statement
  • Adhere strictly to health & safety laws, policies, and procedures
  • Report any hazards and health & safety concerns to the Food & Hospitality Manager
  • Adhere to CSSI’s work attire standards
  • Maintain confidentiality for business practices
  • Work in an organized manner where detail, accuracy and confidentiality are critical
  • Mandatory attendance at staff meetings and CSSI-related training days
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep understanding of best practices in cooking and food preparation
  • Understanding of CSSI’s food services
  • Comprehension of instructions and information relating to CSSI’s food services
  • Understanding of best practices for task assignment and performance management
  • Highly organized and skilled time management in handling multiple simultaneous priorities
  • Ability to coordinate and manage outputs consistently across team members
  • Customer service skills
  • Cultural competence
  • Preferred: A valid ‘G’ class driver’s license and a reliable means of travelling between Conestoga College campuses
  • Food Handler’s Certificate is a great asset but not required
  • Training will be provided on how to work with propane, generators, cash registers, and other Food Truck equipment

Student Eligibility

  • Maintain a full-time course load. Part-time studies may be allowed for students who are registered with Accessibility Services and require a reduced load
  • For Spring term positions (May to August), students must be returning to full-time studies in the Fall term in order to be eligible.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Be in a full-time degree, diploma or certificate program at Conestoga College
  • Hold a valid Canadian study permit that allows off-campus employment for up to 20 hours per week (CSSI will schedule work around class schedules)
  • Adhere to all requirements stated on their study permit
  • Adhere to all Canadian student visa requirements
