Reporting to the Manager, Grants & Proposals, this position will make a direct contribution to support the completion of major funding initiatives related to municipal, provincial, federal and industry sources. The successful candidate will work closely with other colleagues in Industry Solutions on improving the quality of proposals and reports to external stakeholders, particularly government agencies. The Grant Development Specialist will manage the writing process of proposals, tailored to the applied research and reskilling/upskilling areas prioritized at NAIT. The Grant Development Specialist will work with research and training leaders to improve the nuance of their communications in funding proposals and government reporting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the process of proposal development to a complex variety of funding sources.
  • Provide tailored technical editing and writing services to Industry Solutions’ portfolios of applied research and Corporate and Continuing Education.
  • Edit proposals and report documents for logic, clarity, style, consistency, grammar, usage, and sense.
  • Rewrite passages as necessary without changing the original meaning.
  • Shape documents based on the specific area of research or reskilling/upskilling and the funder’s guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining a database of funding opportunities.
  • Maintain a calendar of submission deadlines and other important milestones.
  • Maintain accurate records of grant and proposal applications.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Superior writing skills and advanced knowledge of English grammar usage and editorial style guidelines for Tri-Council as well as Federal and Provincial Government funding and reporting.
  • Strong and effective verbal communication skills.
  • Solid foundation and clear understanding of applied research.
  • Skilled in qualitative and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data, information, and objectives; identify patterns, concerns, issues, problems, needs, tendencies, and relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications.
  • Proven experience as a manuscript/author’s editor.
  • Exemplary project management skills.
  • Strong time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize effectively and to undertake multiple projects (editing and writing) simultaneously.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in (Science or Engineering Preferred)
  • 3-5 years practical experience in writing/editing research/academic prose, particularly in the social, life and physical sciences, and engineering.

Remuneration: $2,851.74 - $3,817.47 biweekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – AUPE Research Officer III).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement
