The Opportunity:

The City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Green Team member to join our team. Under the direction of the Manager of Parks and Recreation Facilities, the incumbent will be responsible for performing Green Team initiatives.

Job Duties:

  • Carry out daily watering activities for trees, naturalized areas, annual flowers, personal gardens, turfgrass, and other green spaces throughout the city.
  • Perform daily monitoring of trees and plant health during watering activities.
  • Perform deadheading, plant removals, plant placements, and pruning as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Requirements shall include:

  • Grade 12 education or General Education Development (G.E.D)
  • Valid WHMIS Certification
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Chainsaw Safety Certification preferred
  • Horticulture, forestry, gardening, landscaping, or greenhouse experience preferred
  • Considerable skill in the operation of designated equipment and hand tools including but not limited to the following: weed trimmers, push & rigin mowers, rotor tillers, chainsaws, pole saws etc.
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrated competency in safe work practices, knowledge and understanding of occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.
  • The ability to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Must be physically able to perform all the laboring aspects or other duties associated with the position.
