As the HR Advisor II at the North West Company (NWC), you will provide support for all manager and employee inquiries and issues related to employee relations programs, policies and procedures. Support the HR Specialist to enable business partners to create and sustain a positive employee relations environment that supports a satisfied, productive and motivate workforce.

Your Role:
  • Respond to multi-channel contacts from managers and employees with inquiries and issues related to employee relations policies and procedures;
  • Provide consultative services to identify root causes of employee relations issues, create solutions for improvement, and facilitate implementation of action plans;
  • In consultation with the HR Specialist, lead and/or participate in the investigation and resolution of employee complaints, issues, and concerns regarding employment practices;
  • Escalate matters not resolved at the first point of contact to the appropriate HR Specialist;
  • Coordinate and conduct Exit Interviews and Wellness Checks and escalate concerns to the appropriate HR Specialist. Collect response data, analyze results and review with HR Specialist for furtherance to the business;
  • Assist the HR Specialist in the administration of employee relations policies and procedures and monitor their application and enforcement to ensure fairness and consistency;
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of all company HR, policies and procedures; and,
  • Maintain knowledge of most relevant government legislation and regulations.



Desired Skills & Experience:
  • College or university degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience;
  • Minimum 3 years’ of HR experience required;
  • Minimum 2 years in a service role and/or demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service;
  • Demonstrated generalist knowledge of HR best practices;
  • Possesses knowledge of employment Legislation;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to establish high trust relationships;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with a focus on Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
  • A demonstrated ability to manage conflict and diffuse difficult situations;
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask including simultaneously conducting and documenting a conversation;
  • Able to manage fluctuating workload and time pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; and
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Must be available to travel to northern Canada up to 30 days/year.
