Objective of the Role:

Reporting to the Director of HR for the further process division, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for all staff and personnel matters at our facility in Surrey, BC including, but not limited to recruitment and selection assistance, conditions of employment, staff training, absenteeism control programs, and other administrative tasks. He/she also provides counsel and support on matters such as performance management, discipline/discharge, harassment, employee/labour relations, contract administration and policies and procedures.


Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate training and development programs for the organization.
  • Assist in the delivery of orientation training and supporting recruitment initiatives.
  • Development and maintenance of employee job descriptions and standards.
  • Interact with external organizations impacting employee welfare i.e. WCB, Labor Board, etc.
  • Interpret and administer collective agreement provisions ensuring constancy of application; discipline & discharge cases, grievance & arbitration matters and health and safety
  • Work with union representative to resolve labor relation issues.
  • Assists with the carrying out of a company-wide process of organization development that addresses issues such as succession planning, superior workforce development, key employee retention, organization design, and change management.
  • Assists with the company-wide committees including the wellness, training, environmental health and safety, activity, and culture and communications committees

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of applicable employment law and Human Rights in Canada.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety and HACCP regulations.
  • Ability to analyze data and situations and provide recommendations.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, strong knowledge of people management, coaching and leadership skills.
  • High level of attention to detail, well developed influencing, negotiating and consulting skills. Ability to work with all levels of management.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong presentation skills, strong analytical skills, ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Be able to motivate staff through positive employee relations.
  • Post secondary education in Human Resources Management, minimum two years broad knowledge and experience across several HR disciplines.
