Job Description:
The Design Formation Program seeks an instructor for DSGN 2351 Communication Design: Web Design Fundamentals in the Summer of 2023 semester (condensed course in A term). This is a 1 section course (1/4 of full time, which is two hours per week of classroom instruction, two hours per week of seminar (demonstration), four hours per week of lab supervision, plus other duties related to the college). The position involves teaching students to learn to work with standards-compliant CMS and author websites that respond to current devices and browsers and apply contemporary approaches to web typography and graphics.
The learning outcomes for this course are:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to…
  • describe the elements of a well-designed website
  • produce web designs utilizing flexible grids and a “mobile first” approach
  • produce graphics with appropriate size and format for web
  • register and set up their own web domain
  • evaluate and assess effective website design
  • Work with and publish standards-compliant CMS
  • integrate basic interactivity into web design

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in a directly related discipline is preferred or equivalency:
  • A bachelor’s degree with an appropriate major, plus five years of full-time employment in an industry directly related to the course;
  • A credential from a recognized institution in an appropriate discipline, and eight years full-time employment in an are directly related to the program instructional areas;
  • Ten years full-time employment in an area directly related to the program instructional area
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience using a Mac operating system
  • Professional level knowledge of pertinent software
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current trends in web design
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Portfolio presentation of current, relevant work and teaching portfolio (optional)
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have:
  • 3–5 years of teaching experience
  • Teaching experience with college-level graphic design and web design courses
  • 3–5 years experience in the field of graphic and web design
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain currency and strive for excellence in instructional practices and pedagogy
  • Maintain currency in relevant subject areas
  • Ensure effective use of available class time and supervise lab/studio time
  • Maintain appropriate office hours to ensure availability for student consultation
  • Must attend department meetings and assist with department duties
  • Maintain collegial working relationships, actively contributing to the department and College
