About us:


University Planning, Design and Construction provides the University with support through four key services: University Planning, Project Development, Design and Engineering and Project Management. The team is responsible for campus master planning, space allocation, design & engineering services, costing, leasing, and all construction and renovation projects.

Your Opportunity:

The Project Management department is responsible for construction and renovations on all three campuses and for other University-owned or leased properties in the City of Toronto, City of Mississauga, York Region and Haliburton County. The Interior Designer is responsible for providing layout, coordination and design of spaces with an emphasis on furniture and signage for capital projects. The Interior Designer works with project managers, consultants and clients to formulate plans and designs which are practical, aesthetic and conducive to achieving the function and purpose objectives of the project with the best value to the University. Most projects require consultation, co-ordination and interaction with retained design consultants. This position may require travel between University Campuses and/or to suppliers' offices.

Your Responsibilities will Include:


  • Planning interior layouts and furnishings for capital projects
  • Liaising with clients to ensure designs reflect operational requirements
  • Collecting on-site measurements
  • Checking that required approvals are received on design prior to tendering the project
  • Issuing request for proposals and other tendering documents
  • Developing task schedules in concert with project schedules
  • Verifying the accuracy of invoices
  • Keeping well-informed on purchasing and/or procurement policies and procedures


Essential Qualifications:


  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Registration with ARIDO an asset.
  • Minimum five years related experience in general interior design with emphasis on designing layouts, assessing user needs, and selecting furniture through to installation, move-in and deficiency follow up.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD, BlueBeam, Excel, Word templates, MS Project and 3D modeling.
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure of frequent deadlines and conflicting demands.
